New to this site. I'm learning to navigate and search. Finding answers are not that easy.

Don't worry I get sick of people to, boosting their post counts saying go search
this site can be a pain to look stuff up sometimes but it's better then most I been on.
To answer your question though, I have heard you can do it if you cut your bracing off from under the hood, still it's pretty close. Years back I bought a HSR to for measurements and found with my ES poly engine mounts there was no way I could pull it off, guess you would need the stock saggy engine mounts in the car to really do it.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
I'm bringing this back up. I've done the search, looked at the pics, and I still have a question. Has anybody determined specifically WHAT hits the hood? Is it the leading edge of the plenum, is it the throttle body, or is it both? I'm once again toying with the idea of getting a stealth ram, but this time for my GTA instead of my IROC. I have no desire whatsoever to cut the hood or to go to an aftermarket one, so I'm instead trying to decide if I want to modify the HSR, but that will largely depend on what's interfering with the hood. Based on one pic I found that Zepher posted, it would seem that both the front of the plenum and the throttle body stick up above the hood line, but they're so bad in his pic that it gives the impression that you'd need to lower the plenum & throttle body an inch or more to get it under the outer hood skin, which we all know isn't the case.
So... has anybody determined what's causing the interference?

I know the mounts have a lot to do with it too, on my camaro with poly engine mounts even with the bracing removed it was not going to clear. Same on my friends GTA with the poly mounts.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
For mine, the fit was exceedingly tight, but all I had to do was put the metal screw clamp upside down and it fit, but rubbed the insulation.
The lowest point of the hood is the furthest point forward on the HSR. You may need to clear more than that in some cases depending on the mounts.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
The reason I ask is because I'm tinkering with the idea of getting one and making an angled adapter that will tip the throttle body down, but that would be for nothing if it was the front of the plenum that hit. Hopefully my 150k mile factory mounts will allow for extra room.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
I don't really care about indents in the insulation... I just don't want to cut up the hood.
Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
good luck lol, have you considered using a 4bbl style intake with an elbow and ls1 style throttle body? Doesn't really give the same look as the stealth ram but you should be able to get the elbow to clear easier.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
I've given it some thought, but from what I can see, they seem to rob too much low end torque than I'm willing to give up in this mild 350.
Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
That's funny I would have thought it to be the opposite if you used with with a dual plane manifold, since the HSR is basically a tunnel ram. I have the HSR on my camaro now, I'm very happy with it but I think if I had it to do over again I probably would go with an elbow type setup.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
My mistake, just went and looked at the pics of the car and it was a single plane. I saw a setup being installed on a car and thought it was a dual plane. I guess the only was to use a dual plane style intake is with the ez-efi setup.

Re: HSR hood fit question 88 GTA
Well folks, my HSR does indeed fit under my stock hood with no issues. All I had to do was trimm the bracing, and it's just perfect. Bye the way a "Big Thank You" to everyone. The 383 fired up and ran today. All I can say is wow....this thing is just plain evil...but in a really good way.
