Bought a previously modified Super Ram - I have some questions

First, what thickness gasket material are you guys using when you make your gaskets? The stuff I used is too thick and is keeping the plenum from lining up with the runners when I did a test fit.

It seems like someone epoxied the coolant port on the driver side rear of the intake but left the passenger side open. Why?

On the passenger side above the coolant port, there is valve above the port. Any ideas why this would be there? What could I connect it to? Should I even leave it there? Or should I just close up this port like the driver side?

There's these vacuum barbs on the rear of the intake, what do these connect to? I don't recall any vacuum lines going to the plenum of the stock intake, although it's been a long time since I took the original apart.

There's these two threaded holes in the bottom of the plenum. Should they be plugged or left open?

I don't know what this part is called exactly, but the SR base I have didn't come with one so I saved it from the old TPI manifold. I'm assuming it should be used with the SR base?

Ok, so out of curiosity I checked to see if that coolant port was totally blocked by running some water through it and it isn't entirely blocked. Water still trickles through to the other side. What gives here? I wish I could ask whoever who did this stuff why they did it, but that would be impossible. I bought this thing at Carlisle a few years ago without knowing much about it. The guy selling it didn't seem to know much about it either.

the fitting in the coolant port is to bleed any air out of the cooling system
the vacum barbs on the back are more then likley for the heater controls and one for the fpr

SBCs do not normally flow coolant at the rear. My initial guess was epoxy=leak repair. The heads obviously have the passages at both front and rear, so they can be put on either side.

Since 99.9% of SBCs don't have/need anything similar, you could ignore it. Just make sure it doesn't leak. If you want to do something with it, run a line to the front intake water passages to get some circulation, and avoid any air bubbles trapped in the rear.

FPR, MAP, heater controls. And the large one on the driver's side is likely for the brake booster.

If the are not sealed, they will be called a vacuum leak. Are they not used to bolt the runners to the plenum?

Oil splash shield. It keeps oil from the lifters from splashing onto the bottom of the intake. In some conditions, it would be adding heat to the intake. For stock = has a heat-crossover/EGR, it could be from splashing oil onto the hotter intake and cooking the oil. I think you can ignore it.

on the intake spash pan. Lingenfelter installed it on the bottom of my intake.
as it keeps the intake charg just a tad bit cooler. (per LPE)

i would put it back on..it helps.

Re: Bought a previously modified Super Ram - I have some questions

The coolant port on the top of the lower rear intake is for the corvette.
Take it out and put in a plug if using in a f-body.
SBCs should have crossover flow in the rear back to the front but don't. You can use the little port and run a line up to the front crossover if you want.

The vacuum barbs are factory and correct. The other big open vacuum hole is 4 the brake booster fitting.
