My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

OK I made the decision to go SR (since there aren't any T-Rams that need a home) and there's parts like:
1) the bolt kit to hold this together
2) accel cable bracket
3) non Vortec heads
4) roller cam for this setup
5) injectors
6) Prom chip/tune
are several things I'm needing to even start the actual install so I'm gathering parts, looking for recommendations/advice
I just got the upper plenum and runners from a member here last night and didn't really look it over too well so I need to, it needs bead blasted and holes/threads inspected and repairs made where needed.
So anyone with SR experience please feel free to advise what worked for 1-6 above for you, share pics whatever I've done alot of engine work over the years but never a multi piece intake quite like this before, but I did put a TPI 350/700 in a 66 Nova SS I built in the 90's this 87 Trans Am of mine I bought in '91 and was newest car I had ever owned till last year the last few years it hasn't done much My son had it and cooked the engine and its been a slow road back to life so its coming back as my retirement car to build on.

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

1) You can find the instruction manual online if you google search and it will tell you all the bolt sizes.
2) The bracket for the TV cable isn't easy to find. I believe you could modify the angle of the stock bracket to work if really needed.
3) If you have the accel base, you don't need to worry about vortec heads. If you have vortec heads, look into the Scoggin Dickey TPI intake
4) Roller cam isn't a problem since that is what TPI cars had stock... Many use the LPE 219 cam, or Comp XFI 268 or 280. All depends on your setup.
5) Again, all depends on your setup. We need more information.
6) I went EBL P4 so I can tune it a bit easier myself... But there are many ways to approach this. All depends on your knowledge, other modifications, and how big your wallet is.

OK
1- got it thanks
2 I found this and will probably have to make one: Making SR accelerator bracket
3 not doing the vortec base so I'll be changing to regular port heads - any take center bolt VC?
4 block is already roller 4 bolt 383 has ZZ4 cam to pass sniffer - not needed any more want bigger but not too knarly ( prefer nice drivability)
5 OK we can see what the rest ends up
6 same

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

Trickflow 195s, AFR 195s... tons of options for centerbolt heads really. I’m running the trickflows with a comp 268xfi cam. Isn’t too rowdy at all. Very driveable.

To really further assist we will need your power goals and budget.

For what it’s worth You can run the hot cam and still pass emissions.
tuning it is pretty easy.
Here is a list of fasteners.

I would buy the moates.net burn 2 a few sst27sf512 eeproms and a g1 adapter and tune it yourself.
for injectors you should run atleast 30#hr injectors imo.

Hot cam is pretty close to the LPE 219 cam - little less lift and little more exhaust duration so am I right they are close enough to use what I have?
now the Moates thing I'd be better to give that to a blind man and see how he does with it I really have no inclination with the electronics tuning stuff

I'm not really sure what your showing me there? the TV cable hole need to be moved inboard? I know its routed under plenum before installing that.
can anyone put original bracket on paper and trace it out and fax or email it to me?

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

The tv cable needs to be more centered but there is not enough room to do that.
here is a picture of the sr bracket. This is one way to help correct the tv cable angle the other is on the link you provided.
if you don’t want to learn programming I would atleast learn how to datalog.
This will be important if you do a mail order tune.

Not sure how to do that in a 3d view, or are you just wanting the holes in comparison to the bend ?

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

well I need it 1:1 thats why i asked if can be faxed or scanned and emailed, as for the mounting tabs the part can be rolled on its sides and marked, this way I can lay it on some stock and cut to size
can you measure the thickness with a caliper? looks to be simple enough to try

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the throttle bracket on the later SD TPI cars accomplish this without having to modify it?

the throttle brackets are the same 85-92. The throttle cable is different a wrap around style for 89-92.

So I would still need to either modify a bracket or procure an Accel piece for it to work on a '90 model car?

My Formula is being painted. If still needed, I'll take all the measurements when I get the car back in a few months. I might sell it since it's a stick car now anyway, but I already have 3 people wanting it.

I have a stock bracket coming and I will compare to drawing to see if that can be modded simply versus fabricating a complete one

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

Ok now I can see the differences between the 2 the angle is greater as the cables have to be moved wider so they clear the Pizza box
the accel and cruise cable holes are physically higher up, again to clear the box I could probably cut weld enough to make the stock bracket work but I think starting with new stock would be better I looked and haven't found the right thickness I am going to look at some 16ga but that's thinner. Dont know if will be strong enough - I'll post up when I know more but I have a lot on my plate this month- F1 race in Austin next weekend and going to SEMA 2 weeks later
stay tuned

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

OK so I bought this bracket from another board member said he got from Summit for his SR

So I compared it to a stock cable bracket and its very similar but the TV cable is more centered compared to throttle and cruise cables where the stock TV cable hole is farther away from plenum and not centered. but the side view the " angle" is just like the stock one where the SR is closer to to 90 degrees

which IMO tilts the TV cable more down to go under plenum.
I think the upper angle is fine for the two cables to clear the top of plenum so maybe I can bent the lower down, leave upper as is and modify lower bolt tab to mount the bracket
so my question is does TV cable need to move towards plenum more?

I also see I need 4 or 5 of the runner to plenum 1/4-28 x 3/4" 12 pt bolts -any ideas where I can find them? found 6 pt and allen head and are these the ones they talk about slotting the end so you can screw them up snug then tighten? or should I drill and stud and nut the inners?

You might want to stud the inners and drill a hole in the stud and safety wire the nuts.
not sure on the tv cable angle.

Sorry no pictures, one you drill out the plenum no turning back unless you help coil it. Drill the plenum holes and tap the runner holes.

I don't remember modifying my SR bracket on the JL-1 system I had back in the early 90s, but maybe it came with a new bracket? Car was a 1989. Just curious.

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

OK so I took a look at this bracket and the TV cable hole is closer to plenum but compared to the template that Tuned port made off the original bracket it still needs 1/4-3/8 closer to plenum the upper throttle cable holes should be raised up so cables will go over the top easier see pics in post 9&10
The angle on the top appears to be OK and like I said before this bracket isn't angled like the SR its identical to stock and it needs to be a sharper angle its easy to bend in vise and a small hammer so i have to figure a good way to move the holes around without destroying it. open for suggestions here I believe I have the fab skills but not much for tools

Have you put the bracket on and tried to install the cables yet? I'd do that and see if it really needs those mods before bending it all up.

Yes sir that's how I came to the conclusion. I figured somebody with the right bracket get some closeups
I find it hard to imagine more SR out here that don't have the right bracket where did they go?

I'll try and post some side by side bracket pictures later this afternoon if I can make it to my garage.

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

Maybe one you guys that have the correct throttle bracket could do a CAD of the part that others of us could download so we could possibly reproduce it instead of potentially hacking up an otherwise useable piece trying to make it work. I'd be willing to pay for a downloaded copy for my own SR. Maybe a 3D printer could be used to produce them for sale to legit SR owners?

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

It was setup to do a EFI install on a old muscle car. IMO, it's great for that and to have as a novelty item but not much else.

I would prefer stock ecm over the accels.
This should of come with a 3.5 disk
pretty old technology. You could repin the harness to 1227730.

Haters. Just remember that when it boots up, you don't want to choose "GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR".

It's crazy all the stuff that used to be so fancy and outrageously priced in the catalogs is now so antiquated. Technology marches on.

this is going into my 1990 Formula that's 350 TPI now doesn't it have the 7730?

this also came with a large Bosch inline fuel pump and filter - I think I'd rather use stock in-tank pump

even throttle body was complete with new sensors and IAC valve

Re: My Accel Super Ram install (info&parts needed)

Your right your car does have a 730 ecm. I was thinking of selling the harness. Not to many new stand alone wiring harnesses for sale. You might have to add a few grounds. I just sold a similar ecm and could only get $15 bucks for it. It might be worth more with the disks and db9 cable just my two cents.

That looks old but very cool.
not sure if the db9 cable was male or female. It should have a special connector that hooks to the ecm harness and then to laptop. To furether learn about that ecm contact mark efiguy here on tgo. He’s seen it all
