since I did a rebuilt on my 305 I'm awake in the land of power and enjoying it.
Two things that makes me headaches are: The old computer was tuned from myself with tuner pro and the ostrich 2.0 later on with a burned prom chip.
There are some idle issues since I burned the new chip. And I'm not in the mood to get myself more into this old computer EFI. I did, and end up not having it ideal.
Next is the power band of the ported TPI stuff Im having on it: It falls flat at around 4800rpm. And I enjoy the performance parts Im having on it. But I feel, there could be more.
The manifold etc is holding me back for current and future plans. So my idea is to swap that manifold and ECU out for an Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 XT unit, with nearly all included.
I read some threads on here. Most people, if you find any info, put this on top of their 350 or 383, but not on a modified 305.
So I want to ask you guys some questions:
-Is this intake, besides the costs, a good deal for a 305? Its been worked over in the bottom end, and got 175cc Trickflow heads on top of it with a SLP 51002 camshaft with 206/212 @.050" and 512in/520ex lift with 1.6 full roller rockers. Exhaust is also in straight trough design.
Will it kill the low end tremendously? I read something about at 2500rpm it comes to life, so not that bad in the lower rpm range? But that was with a 383.
-How about the ability to control the tcc on a TH700R4?
Appreciate any input, feel free to post your 2 cents!
But I love my particular engine and the fact, that its 305 and won't change it ever!
Greetings from Germany,
I have an xt in my 82 ta. It's a great system. A 305 will work fine w it. It's easy to set up and has worked really well. I had to notch the bracing on the hood over the throttle body. It should work fine just make sure it matches w your heads well.
hi just reading yore post.i am looking at using the pro flow xt in my 3rd gen
i have a 88 formula im trying to find info on hood clearance and how its been got over any picks advice would be great .
I have poly engine mounts so it may sit up a little more than stock. The center of the hood support was clearanced for the throttle body. Thats the only place it was close. The drivetrain angle will play a roll in contact of this area.
THANK YOU i was having all sorts of horrible visions to the point i almost changed my mind
once again thanks
how dus the car run im guessing the pro flow xt is not the only mod u have ?
It rips. I had the pro flow 1 on it years ago and switched to the 4 in 2019. I have. 450hp setup/t56 and this winter it's getting a blower. The of PF4 works w boost.
it's really easy to setup. Runs great. I have 3 friends w pro flow setups and also are psyched w it.
if you have any questions about it let me know. These pics are from when it was working on it in 2019.

Whot parts did you need apart from the pro flow and bits with it .it apears i would need fule pressure reg .coil ht leads pump is already in car 90 psi 255 lph the lines will need changing as that the orig 3rd gen
whot throtle cable did u use ?
There's a pro flo regulator you need to buy separate. It depends on what PSI you want. You need either 43 or 58 psi. There are a few different coils you can use. I used a MSD blaster.
the fuel pump is more of a deal. I have an Aeromotive stealth tank/pump/sender combo w the 340 lph pump. It works great. Initially I used an inline pump w my old system and for a month w this system. It was loud and ran hot. I could do that because I had a carb w no in tank pump. You'll need to either swap the pump or maybe it can supply enough fuel. I don't know much about stock fuel pumps. The pro flo ecm will run a fuel pump up to 10 amps. You may be able to run your stock pump directly off the ecm. But, I believe there's a relay triggered by your ecm. You could just use the pro flo ecm to trigger that stock relay. I put in a 30 amp relay and 10 gauge wire for my pump. You totally have options.
You'll need 2 3/8 lines (6AN) for fuel. I initially didn't and it contributed to my hot pump. There other ways to gone this but that's what I did.
I used a lokar universal TPI cable.
