Why that year specifically though?? If you like the original IROC-Z style, 87 is the best year to go for. Lots of pictures here: www.iroc-z.com or http://iroc.fbody.com/pics.html Last edited by IROCZTWENTYGR8; Apr 17, 2002 at 11:51 PM.

Or maybe he likes the awesome 3rd brake light (ok, think me weird, but I've always prefered the '86 style).
Or could it be he likes the interior cloth pattern better? You have to admit the '87 interior was just plain blah.

The 87 custom lined interior was great!! Comfortable too. The only other int. I really like other than that is the 84's. Maybe some others too, I don't recall the years, but I like the 87's the best.
hey guys, thanks a lot for all the pics! its not so much the year 86 that is special to me lol but the car i am looking at is an 86 with a 350 TPI cowl induction hood, tinted windows, i think the guy did a motor swap casue it says it had 5K on the motor and he only wants $2300 now to me this sounds to good to be true, whut do you guys think? also did IROCs come with 16 x 8 tires or 15 x 7?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if it is a true 350 TPI then the 8th digit in the VIN should be an 8, it should unless switched out have a auto trans with a borg warner rear with 3.27 gears. But thats only if I have my info right.

Since this car is a swap I don't think its gonna have the 145 MPH speedometer. Just to be sure look for 8 as the 8th digit and the RPO codes L98 and B2L. I really doubt its 1 of "test" 350 TPI's.

It's an '86, the odds of the VIN being an 8 are the same as getting struck by lightning, you'll need to check the block # to be sure, not sure how to do that though. Oh, and I have a 145mph speedo and mine came with the LG4.

The casting numbers on a motor are behind the left head, they're a pain to get too, and hard to read if they're not clean.
-Mark A Shields is right, the only way of REALLY telling if it's a 350 is by the casting #'s, and not the VIN. Your in real luck if the number ends in a '10' as the last 2 digits, which simply means it's a 4-bolt.
