There was this one autozone i saw blackouts at once for my '87 Z28, then I heard you guys saying that GTS went out of business, I put it off. When I went back they were out Went back today to order a dash cover, I decided what the hell and checked, and sure enough, there were the blackouts for my car I bought those ****'s right then and there. Just can't wait till I get my car painted and have some pics of everything on her.

Just thought I'd spread the love....

I live in Amariilo, Tx and my car is completely blacked out from front to back, and nobody has said anything yet, and I've been pulled over twice for speeding. I imagine the state boys wouldn't be crazy about it, but the locals probably won't care.

Well actually I believe their illegal everywhere, cause if you look on the box I believe it says for show cars only. Could be wrong was a while since I read the box. I wanted to get them for mine, but I always ask a trooper at my work before I do anything like that on my car. He said they were illegal, just cause you haven't had anything said to you doesn't mean they won't. You get the wrong cop to pull you over and he'll have a field day with you. I really wanted them too, but thats just another thing for them to pull you over to screw with you. You got to think our cars are flashy to begin with. I don't need to give them a excuse to pull me over. You know what I mean?

Car: too many ...
I used to have front and rear blackouts on my maroon 90 RS. They looked awesome, but the left front blackout flew off when I was going 115 on the freeway one time. Flipped up, hit the windshield and went over the side of the freeway!! Oops!! hahahah.

Oh well, needless to say I took the other front one off and haven't thought about it since then. Also ended up removing the rears because a policeman friend told me they were illegal. I still have the rear blackouts minus the adhesive velcro-like strips that held them on sitting in my garage ...

Now that I think about it, the fronts really dimmed the headlights at night. Anyone else notice this? With the tint I had a really hard time seeing where I was going. Had to run my brights most of the time. I was thinking about doing the front blackouts to my black 92 B4C but decided against it because I want to make sure I can see where I'm going (dang this car is FAST!!) I decided to do a ultrawhite H4 bulb conversion with ultrawhite PIAA driving lights instead.

Actually as far as I know taillight blackouts arent illegal because you can still see the reflective material through them. That whats cops have told me before from illinois, and michigan, so they shoulkd have similar laws everywere, besides the michigan cops told me that my liscense plate cover had to go, but nothin wrong with the blackouts. headlight covers are illegal though, at night anyways.

Thats exactly what happened to me. I took off from a light, racing some kind of BMW (beat the snot outa me, lol), but the mad powa of the stock 305 TBI tore my passanger side rear blackout right off the velcro. Some lady pulled up next to me and told me something had fallen of my car.... I found it, but it was toast, lol.

Yea, as said before...the GTS blackouts come with a warning that they are for show cars only. But I too have had mine on for over two years now, and haven't had anything said to me (an I have been pulled over a good share of times). But as stormr said, you actually can still see the reflective material through them....but I still believe they are illegal everywhere. But had to argue they are a huge improvement on certain color cars.

I took mine off when i was pulled over and informed that they are illegal in Okla, and if i was hit inthe *** end,it would be my fault due to defective lighting! In Okla rear lamps are to be visable for 300 ft.,which mine were not even close, and I doubt many are.

LOL, welll ......... since the reason he actually pulled me over was for turning into the outsise lane on a left turn ,like everyother person in the universe does .When he saw I was older then he was,and not drunk,he had to find some reason to give me the speach. But its not worth the chance ,so off they came

No There Illegal in florida, like I said that came from a Florida State Trooper. Usually local PD won't even bother you, but they can. But they usually won't pull you over for them unless your doing something that your not supose to But then you got your share that just want to screw with you, that follow you all the way home. Waiting for a reason to pull you over.Trust me been there done that, and if I would have had blackouts they would have pulled me over.

I've been pulled over quite a few times with mine and got one warning. The cop said that they were either "borderline illegal" or "borderline legal". It's been a few years and I can't remember now which he said. He didn't write me a ticket or anything, he was just being a jackass. I love the look, though...

Blackouts forever

I love my blackouts. My car is totlly blacked out. Front GTS , back GTS , limo black rear window, 15% side. The look is too sweet on a all black car. I do have to get the wiring for my OEM fogs so I can see a litttle better but it is okay for now.

"CamaroKev", use a little gas and take those white decals off. then your car will look even better.

Finally got my first speeding ticket in 10 years. The cop never mentioned my rear blackout but he did ask about my side tinted windows. those are illegal in Illinois which I knew but pretended not to. He gave me the old verbal warning. "Can't have that tint mister." "Yes, Officer. I'll get it taken off tomjorrow. I didn't know." RIGHT!!!

Anyway blackout are sweet. Go for it. Go to your local parts store and get the last few GTS blackouts available. There is a store (actually a big parts warehouse)around here that has a bunch of them. If you pm me I will see if i can get them before they sell out.

I don't care for black outs. It's been done. They're mostly borderline legal, if at all, and of course they fall off, and it's just another easily removed piece to get stolen.

Just an idle thought though... anyone know if trans am tail lights are a direct fit on a camaro? Would be different at least.

In Minnesota they are illegal, front and rear at all times which bites the big one. Minnesota and their stupid laws. I got pulled over for having no front plate, then the idiot gave me a warning on my power cord for the radar detector was abstructing my view and that my rear license tab was partially covered. Me and my 6 year old son were just idleling around town on a sunday and this stupid state trooper running around on residential streets in a tiny *** town cant possibly be home with his family or busting people actually speeding. But I can cross 2 states without a problem. Something wrong there. Just venting , sorry.

I think it's worth the risk. Plus I only got warned once, and i must have had them for over a year now. I just take them off in parking lots all the time. I'm not having them get stolen again.

WADE makes some pretty good blackouts for our cars. I like them but am always checkin out to see if they had fell off yet which the passanger side did once when I was leaving work for lunch and I came back to see it sitting on the road no scratches though. hehe i was driving around with one blackout for like fifteen minutes.

btw nice car special k........love those forest green 91-92s

I don't understand the problem with them falling off. All you have to do is screw them in after drilling a small hole. paint the head of the screw black and off you go.
