How long do car waxes last?
I have used Meguairs 3-step waxing, and i'm curious on how long it lasts. I put it on my car like on July 15 or something. And i probably washed the car like 8 times since then. Its gone through 2 rainfalls. Is it time to wax it again? My dad says waxes last a year....i dont know that sounds crazy.
I wax 3 to 6 times in the summer ......
and i don't even use formual 113<-- haven't even used it,
""And i probably washed the car like 8 times since then""
its proble still good, but id wax it again
if it was my car....
theres more i was going to say but i gtg:lala:

I try to wax mine like once every month or so if I can. You can't hurt it by waxing it too much. Just watch your paint when it rains or somethin, if the water doesn't bead good, then it's time for wax. I remember mine when I first got the car, it would just like kinda saok it up. Not really bead up at all, but like I said I just try to put a coat on like once a month. I am sure you will get many differnt opinions on this.

Should i then do the whole 3-step process again, or just use the last step, waxing now. Cause the first 2 are cleaning, and polishing. I'm just saying that since maybe the first 2 are still there, but the wax has faded, i dont know what u guys think?
I mean i dont mind, u all know how it is, waxing your sweet ride is not a burden, i want to do it.

I would say the first wax of the year do all the cleaner and sh*t, but if it doesn't look like it needs it, I would just put a good coat of wax on it. I like to try and put 2 coats on mine each time I do it, and in some areas that need it more, maybe even a little more. If you havn't tried it, try a little of the formula 113, I think it rocks.

I wouldn't use step 1 too often. That is the cleaner and is loaded with abrasives. But Step 2 and 3 should be perfectly safe.

I remember when I had my black car and I was 18 with plenty of time. I waxed it once a week. The car didn't even look black, it looked like there were clouds floating all over it it was so shiny and reflective. That was the best lookin paint I ever had. Can't wait to pain this one.

I usually wax once every 4-5 weeks in the summer. When it's spring time and warm out, and my car is still stored in my garage, I get bored and wax it like once a week-lol

Hey thanks guys, waxing is such a wide spread knowledge we all tend to learn i guess when we get sweet cars.
Um, heres a thing thats nagging then. Swirls, and lines that appear when the sun light hits at certain angles. Its not a big deal, but damn it, it would be great to remove those.
Now i'm guessing but maybe i added to those swirls, cause i get mad when i see a sheet of dust on my car, so i get my terry towels out, and i get rid of the dust. Terry towels, they wouldnt scratch my car would it? I mean i know some of u must go by your car and remove the dust off right? Would the step 1 remove it, or i need some special product to remove them, or hell would repeat steps 2 and 3 do the job?
Maybe putting more than one coat this time would be better?

Formula 113 removed my swirls, but they are back again
I think that stuff just temporarily fills the fine scratches in the clear to make them appear to go away.

To get the dust off, i use a car duster and go very very lightly. I live a blcok and half from the beach so its truly a pita to keep dust/sand free.

Different waxes last for different amounts of time. The longest lasting stuff I've ever used is Nu Finish. It will last for a year or close to it. My grandfather uses it and the water beads on his car all year.
I use Eagle 1 wax on the GTA and it lasts a couple months. I use Zymol on the GTA and it lasts about 3 days.
I've found that since I've been using my car duster on the GTA that the finish stays much smoother between waxing. I haven't waxed it in months and it's still smooth and the water beads. I think the car duster has some amount of wax in the fibers, because my wipers smear water all over my windshield since I started using it.

Thanks, i just went to Advanced Auto Parts, and they had car dusters there. I got one with a handle, its red, and supposed to have a waxing substance on it, to pick up dirt really good!
I just did my whole car in 3min, but i'll have to take it out of the garage to see if the dust is gone, hard to tell inside.
No more messy towels.

If you just bought it and already used it, then you didn't read the instructions. For things to work right and do what they are designed to do without causing the problems that people complain about, read the instructions. You're supposed to let the duster sit out between 24-48 hours before using it.

Really? i used it right away, oh well. Now the Duster is looking grey on the fibers, and i'm wondering whats the best way to remove the dirt, or is it ok if its dirty? Cause i think it says it even works better the dirtier the duster gets. Could be wrong, but hey its picking up the dirt wonderfully still, how long do these dusters last?
