Creative Ideas Needed!! PLEASE
I have a very faded decklid on my car. I just purchased the car and I cannot afford a new $2500 paint job. The guy that does the painting said that the clearcoat is breaking down. Do any of you have any ideas on how to hide this? I know that I can go get some automotive paint and try that -- but I don't like working with that stuff because of color matching. I was just looking for creative ideas.
Someone told me to put a custom decal over it, but what and the heck could I put on it?????
Thanks for all of your help!:hail: :hail: :hail:

For right now i'm going to keep my flares, I'm sorry. The portion right blow the rear window and the spoiler. The lady I bought it from said that she was "waxing" the car and when she removed the wax this is what happened??

I don't care if there were a Honda sticker under them , those flares are horrible.
I'd say just tough out the clear coat thing for now. And save up some $, I wouldn't get a $2500 paint job on a daily driver anyways.

2500 for the rear hatch??? That is insane!! You can do better than that. And I would take of the flares, they don't look good on our cars. Just a thought.

The $2500 was for the entire car. The guy that gave me the price is pretty good. But, I aint gonna spend that kind of money on a daily driver.

I have an older car I just worked on because of badly oxidized paint. What I would do with your camaro is get high speed polisher and some medium grade compound. Buff the deck lid until the clear coat is gone using a cutting pad. Go over it agian with some fine cut cleaner and a finishing pad and that should male it look a bit better. It will not be perfect, but should be better.
Here is the bad part. You are completely removing the clear coat so you paint will be completely unprotected (not that the clear coat was doing anything anyway if it was in bad shape). But your paint will be left to the elements. Always make sure you have a good coat of wax on it. It will oxidize more quickly if you don't.
Also be sure not to press to hard or stay in one place too long. It is possilbe to remove too much paint in some spots. High spots and edges would be susceptible to this.
Like I said, I just did my beater and it looks a lot better. Not perfect , but better.
Good luck.
