Got dark tint? Show me.
Made a discovery today that really pissed me off........my tint is wearing through. Yeah! It looked like something was just smeared onto the windows and then dried but as I was trying to clean it off I realized it was tint. So now I have to come up with some $$ to get my windows re-tinted. I want to go pretty dark but I dont want to get pulled over. I'm thinking 15% on the sides, 5% on the back window, and a windshield strip. Can you post some pictures of dark tint so I can know what to expect? Pics of black cars would be even better. Thanks!!

15% all around. Don't really have a great shot of the hatch though. I'd like it to have been darker, but it's pretty hard to see at night with the 15%....

My tint is starting to do the same thing where the wheel is that makes it go up and down. there is beginning to be a hole wearing through trailing down.
here is mine.......... 10%

I can't remember off hand the particular %'s allowed by law over here. Though put it this way, you aren't even allowed tinted or iridium visors on motorbikes.
If I ever get mine tinted I think it'l have to be like '87 B4Z' - 32% on the sides and 15% in the rear.
Anyone know how long tinted windows last before they start to degrade or lose their tint?

well this is what happened to me after 2 years of rolling up and down my windows(Manual)
as for loosing the tint.. i think the only way it will loose the tint is if you wash your windows with windex or products with bleach in them.. but i could be mistaken
on the bottom of my window is just a reflection of my dog wanting to play

Thanks for all the replies.
I think I'm going with 15% on the sides, 5% on the back, and a really dark 6" strip on the windshield.
I started taking the old tint off today. The sides came off very easy and they are ready for new tint. The rear glass is a much different story. I've been working on it for a few hours now. I cant get any really big pieces to come off, just little pieces. I've used all kinds of stuff to take it off with; industrial strength glass cleaner, Windex, contact cement thinner, and even gasoline. Any tips before I go back out there tonight to finish it off (hopefully)?

here's a before and after in the day............this tint has a layer of titanium in it. supposedly it is suppose to lighten up as well as last longer.
so far it has worked really well and considering it's double it's surprisingly easy to see out at night........except for backing up though.

and the after! this is the last pic
i've had this car tinted over 5 times in the last 4 years.......i searched all over to find a place that would do a great job. no matter where i went and what claims they made the tint wasn't good, i just wanted it to look as if the glass came that way. finally found a place that did good work. so far it's worked out really great, it is extremely dark but when i get pulled over i just explain its for shows and they let me go.
now i paid 230 for all 4 for double layer titanium and lifetime waranty on the work....considering all the other jobs i paid were around 100 it's alot more; but it's been worth it.
good luck a tint job can make all the difference on your car.

Black Widdow, are you having a problem with the tint coming off or the glue from the tint? If it's the glue, go to autozone and look for this stuff called Goof Off. It removes glue and bubble gum. It'll work.

same here, i have 3 tickets from it already and going to court next monday for ticket #4 from the tint
while i can understand the authorities reasoning behind the ticket; if i roll my windows down as they approach my vehicle then there is no harm done.
i can't see any valid argument against that idea that can threaten authorities........
the positives that i see; it works to keep out sun which can distract as well as fade the interior, it works as a secondary theft device to keep people from looking in and best of all it looks great. i'm sure there are many more but it's late.
the only valid argument is that it "can" be unsafe at night.........but yet they fail to stress that issue. if dark tint is used on a "summer" vehicle that is mainly driven in the day i don't see the harm.
either way, as long as i can have tint; i will.

I finally got all the tint off last night with the help of my girlfriend and her hair drier. A little ammonia and a little heat is all it took. I went to the tint shop a few minutes ago and they told me they cant do 5% in the back cause they dont have tint big enough in 5%. I'll be dropping it off tomorrow for 15% all around or if they have 10% big enough I'll get that in the back. I've seen their work and it's really good, show quality even. It's gong to be $122 + $12 for the strip. Not bad for the work they do. They use Llumar tint also and I've heard it's one of the best brands. I'll post pics as soon as I can.........along with pics of my third brake light mod

is there any chance that that white mark could be some kind of tree sap or residue? or is it definately wear and tear in the tint?

After three years, my driver's side is starting to get "scraped" too! It is a line going up and down, just like in the picture above. The rear is still pretty good. Not that much discoloration. The rear is 5% and the sides are 35%, NJ is pretty strict. So far i have not gotton any tickest but i have been pulled over twice for it. I think the smoke/35% looks good on my color car and at night you can not even tell how dark it is, it is still black!
yeah, i've had that stuff on previous versions........it's not bad for the price....eventually it will need to be redone again unless the car never sees the sun. be sure to get a warranty.
good luck with it.
good luck with it.

I know that is illegal to have the fronts done limo dark near me and if you have that done, it is enough to get you pulled over, no matter what you say! Anything illegal done cosmetically can result in a stop. There really is nothing you can do about it. It just gives the police a chance to possibly find something else, like illegal drugs or maybe open alcohol! Just like a busted taillight, it is just a reason to "look" further, thats all. The people who do tinting around here tell "kids" that its illegal, yet they are still allowed to install it! I still do not get that, oh well.

for off road use, meaning car shows and stuff, you technically can flat bed it or trailer it to so its not on the road
