Dear *** my new paint! DAMN PEOPLE!
Dear *** my new paint! DAMN PEOPLE!
Well......the new paint didn't last long.
I was waiting to turn left. I had a green light and I pulled forward about 1 foot (I was waiting on this red car to pass so I could turn) and I looked further to my left and here comes this mid 90's model Chevy truck.....truck blew the light going about 45-50 mph, slammed into the red car, and that car spun and smacked me in the driver's side front fender and nose. It was a dandy time. O_o
The guy that caused all this **** doesn't have insurance or a DL.
To say I'm 'upset' is a bit of an understatement.
MY NEW PAINT IS RUINED! I had nightmares that my car wouldnt turn out well, from the shop, then it did turn out well and now some idiot has caused an acident and my car is screwed! Minor damage but the new paint will never match!
I must go soothe my car now.....
I'll get pics up soon.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about that, I know it may not make you feel much better, but at least you're alive to post this, paint can be fixed, death cannot.
You're very right, Mark. Had I pulled out further, I would have been broadsided and seriously injured.
Like I said I'll see if i can get pics up soon, i'm going to take that roll of film in tomorrow to get it developed.

It my experience silver, when my 92 bird was hit in a parking lot 3 weeks after being painted (and later keyed a few months after that) that most shops keep a little bit of paint behind from each job to mix and match other colors. I took my bird back to the same shop and he was able to completely match the color. I couldn't tell anything ever happened.
Just make sure your insurance doesn't force you into some chop shop insurance paint place. Make sure they know that you have a certain shop that you're going to use. Best of luck!

Well damn, that sucks.Anyway, shouldn't they have the paint's formula makeup in their computer or on your receipt? Some shops keep on record a customer's paint code/makeup so if something happens(paint defects later-flaking,bubbling) they could repaint their mistake.Might be worth looking into. Sucks to hear about your car though.
Honestly, I dont think the man will have the money. He did more damage to the first car. He totalled that one.
After having to pay for the one, I seriously doubt he'll have anything left for my car. But I have full coverage (got it after the elderly woman backed over me LAST November) so our insurance should pay for it if the guy cant cough up the money.
My Baby isn't happy right now.

I'm so glad you are OK and I'm bleading for you, I know how much you had stressed over your car at the panel shop & how glad you were when your baby arrived home.
I hate to tell you but silver is one of the worst colors to match, you can use the same can of paint and it will be different even if the temp is higher or lower but if you get it done make sure they get it right before you take it back home.
does your insurance cover life time repairs??
Also wondering how many coats of paint you have because if its to thick it will need to be sanded right back or you will have problems later.
Once again sorry this happened.
Jacko

Thank you, Jacko. I'm glad I hadnt pulled out any farther.
Dear Lord I dont know how many coats of paint. I know there are quite a few coats of primer. And it was repainted a while back, and this last time I took it into the shop, they REpainted some of the panels they'd already painted because they knew the silvers wouldnt match properly.
So....yay I'll have a mismatched colored car! >: \

Glad your ok. Since the paint is new, it hasn't had time to fade or dull, so they should be able to match the color and shine fairly easily.
NO!!!!!! you won't have a missed matched car coz if they say they can match it they damn well better!
As well as that you WON'T let them! even If they gotta paint the entire car you are entitled to that and they must do it correctly.
Be specific when you get it repaired and ask them if they can perfectly match it, Oh and when you ask that have a friend standing next to you.

thanks for the helpful tips, there. : )
The new paint is still under a warranty. But as much as I would just like to repaint the whole car to make sure it matched, wont it warp the panels if it's stripped and painted too much? This is just what I've heard.

Since I have a custom color I have taken a few steps to ensure that if anything happens to my car it will be fixed right.
The body shop keeps records of the paint formula and the conditions in which it was applied. I also have a quart of the paint for myself in case I need touch-ups or want to paint anything else to match.
If you have full coverage your insurance company has to return your car to "pre-accident condition". If this means painting the whole car so the colors match then so be it. Don't settle for a job that "almost matches". Demand to your insurance company that your car be returned to pre-accident condition as stated in your collision coverage.
Glad you're OK and hope everything turns out OK with the car.
If I were you i'd hire a few "undersireable" people to pay this guy a visit and teach him a lesson about driving without a license or insurance. Break his fuggin legs and see what he thinks about getting himself fixed without insurance. I'm sure it'll be a hard lesson learned for that all-deserving idiot.

I made the mistake of letting a different shop fix that last problem on my 92 and they said it would "exactly match"....I got it back and in the sun I could tell it was darker than the rest of my paint. Turns out they had "exactly matched" it with a different brand of paint. I called my good friends who did the whole paint job and got the full name and details on the paint. DUPONT!!!! Good stuff....turns out the shop that tried to fix it didn't use dupont. I told them to and a few weeks later (after I'd already gotten tired of waiting for a car and bought the GTA) it was done and perfect.

Hmm let me get this. Doesnt the other car has a insurance that will pay for your car?? I cant belive that he has to pay for it himself that sounds very strange to me. You guys have strange laws over there , i discovered that after reading about White Ninjas accident when his thirdgen was totalled. Here you cant drive around in a car whitout insurance. Thats very illegal.
Anyway i hope they can fix it because its a shame to see a nice car being destroyed. Good luck.

the shop you got your car painted at should deffinaty be able to match the color of your car. the shop i work at makes there own paint. so a my work, they mix it, spray it on what looks like an index card, then based on those results the change the paint so that they can ether just paint it or blend it. it should not be a problem. good luck
It is illegal to drive around without insurance around here, but a LOT of people do it. At least half of the people in Dallas have no insurance or driver's license. *shakes head*
My Mother put me on the insurance policy after my first accident (which was also not my fault) and she made sure I had full coverage. So even though the dumbass that caused THIS accident should pay, but probably wont, our insurance will cover the damage.
I just dropped the film off at the store, the pics should be ready on Tuesday.
Thanks for the support, guys. I'm now hoping the shop doesnt have a heart attack. I'm taking it up there for an estimate tomorrow. I know it needs a new front bumber and driver's side fender, but you know.....it didnt break any of my lamps and my stripes are still intact!

Where in Dallas are you, Camaro Bob?
I'd like to see you and your car sometime. That is....sometime after my Baby is fixed. (I'm hoping it'll be in the shop by next week or so)
The shop that I go to Quality Colors, it's on Jupiter road as well; between Centerville and Garland road. Nice people, and they do good work. I want to see your car! Maybe I already have, what's it look like Bob??

Doh Silver, that really sucks! I remember how excited you were when you came home with your newly painted Camaro...
Make sure the job gets done right!

Ok, well....cant give me an estimate until he can find the parts, he says.
Mike assured me he could get the paint to match.....if he can't, they're painting the car again and I know that won't make anyone happy. Too bad.
Yeah, I got pics, but they won't be ready til Tuesday. Seeing as how I was sitting still, I did receive pretty good damage, but anyway....
I'm hoping that our insurance doesn't screw us over. No one seems to like that my car is an 87, so they dont like paying up. but I know my Mother will kick some a$$ if they try that crap.
I'll get pics up tomorrow some time : )

That sucks..........
You should definitly sue the moron that hit you, nothing is worse then getting into a accident when you did nothing wrong.......
Did the police issue a ticket to the person that hit you? Driving without a license and insurance are big offenses down here.........

Sorry to hear about the accident. When John repainted my car he kept a record of what he used on the computer just in case. He uses a computer based mixing program. The computer does all the measurements and stores the color, so you know it is exact and can duplicate it again.
Good luck with everything!

To add to what Redraif said, and elaborate on someone else's comments, if the same shop paints it, chances are good the conditions will be the same (booth temp, curing time, etc), so they should be able to match it. if not, make them paint the whole thing!

Ahh in America you can sue people for a lot of money. To bad it doesnt work over here. The Son Of B###h that tried to break in to my camaro and destroyed an almost new paint job and many other things , he got away almost whitout punishment. I had to pay a lot of money so i woudnt mind suing his *** off.
So my friend take all the money you can get drom this sucker.
I hope you get a good new paint job because its hard to find people who are good at painting cars.
Off Topic but Today i bought a second car: A nice white Volvo 855 (cant live whitout one if your swedish) because im tired off using my bike during the cold a snowy winters. Ahh cant whait until the snow is gone so i can use my Z-28.

,y 2 cents worth ( from a body shop manager )
Sorry to hear about the accident Silver87S.C. but i do want to tell you that if your car is a factory color and with the fresh paint they should have no problem matching the color in a quality body shop with a qualified painter. I see your next problem as being the fact that your car is a 1987. I would be willing to bet that they try to total your car ( I hope im wrong ). Because of its age its too old to be a new car & too young to be a classic. If they get to this point let me know & ill try to help you with this problemor at least give you a little advice on this. For future reference anyone that has spent the time & money to build or keep your older cars might want to get your car appraised & get the appraisal put on paper ( by a professional appraiser ) . This will do one thing for you. In the event that your baby gets hit or even stolen you have on paper by an impartial party, what condition & what value this car is approx. worth. You would want to get this put into your file with your insurer, Just in case. I know with my car book value ( NADA, Kelley Blue Book ) could not come close to replacing my car. Just a little food for thought.....
Good Luck, Joe
Good Luck, Joe Well dammit......I went up to the shop today and asked them to remove my air dam (yeah I'm lazy, leave me alone) and the guy who's finding parts for my car told me "So far we're up to 1600 to repair the damage" I was like "o_o ebe"
And I cant get my scanner to work! I knew I should have gotten those pics on CD.....*shakes head* I might get them up sooner or later...
