Fourth Gen Wheels on Thrird Gen

Alright, before some smart guy tells me to do a search
is there a CHEAP way to get 4th gen 16" wheels on a 3rd gen?? I searched and saw the "correct" way to do it, but there has to be some "thrifty" people on the board that do not want to pay that much $$ for adapters. What exactly is the difference???

I can get some super cheap and figured maybe I could put them on my 3rd gen , or maybe my 79 Malibu.

ALSO, are the center caps... on say 93's.. the same as the 91-92 Z wheels??

Thanks in advance

unless you can think of some other way to make up a 2.15" difference in backspacing up front, you absolutely need bolt on spacers. The rear you have two options. A 4th gen rearend or bolt on spacers.

There is no cheap and easy way.

And yes the center caps are the same.

no cheap way. i dont like adapters either (strength reasons), but thats a different debate. go with a 3rd gen bolt on fit for the most strength. if you must have 4th gen wheels then you sacrafice strength for style. up to you. if you dont race it probably wont matter.

Yo, I agree with the fact there are cheap ways to get around stuff and get the look you want.....

BUT when it comes to something that is holding your car up and moving it which is the main function, you need to have no expenses in mind, don't skimp on quality.......

An analogy for you........Would you rather have a steel jack or a wooden one??..........The wooden one may be cheaper and get the job done for a while, but sooner or later you are going to regret it, and it's going to cost you much more to fix it, then to just have bought the steel jack in the first place..........

If you are a machinist, then you can make the adaptors for next to nothing. My friend is and he says that they are very easy to make.
I did the 4th gen rear swap thing on my car, I just used one of the extra 4th gen rears we had sitting on the side of our house and put on mine.
I think I still have another, but it is a 2.73 geared rear.

Hey Zepher, if your buddy wants to make me a set, I will pay some $ for them depending on how cheap.

I am not in love with these wheels by any means, just picked them up for cheap and wondering what to do with them.

Thanks

Tom

I am going to give him one of my spacers so he can measure it and find out what it is going to cost to produce them.
I'll let you know next week.

Not yet,
I've got to give my friend a spacer, probably do that tomorrow when I get back, so hopefully I can get a price by med-week.

Laborwise it should be too much. Now I am looking into the cost of the bar stock. I'll probably only offer 2" spacers, since that is the optimum size to mount 4th gen wheels on the cars.
I should be able to get an actual price by mid-week.

Is it possible to just get really long studs and put 2 in's worth of spacer on it?

Yes you can, but the studs are more prone to snap since there is a lot more force applied to the studs. This method is not recommended at all.
