she's running again...

In less than 12 hrs Saturday we transplanted the LS1. We even began reinstalling some of the interior. Here's a few pics...

I'll scan more pics Monday...

eeek 15k for a new lt5 not worth the actual power it puts out, but definatly would be a bitchin swap. And yes it does, thiers been a couple, namely gm made show cars with them.

Since you guys are above the average level of customizers here (myself included), I would be interested in hearing how you dealt with relocating the interior door handle on that door panel swap. I have my plan already, but its nice to hear different ideas/methods. Thks!

Also, how did you keep A/C with a LS1?? Last I heard they were trying a LT1 A/C setup from a Vette on the LS1 swaps into 3rd gens but nobody got it to work yet. Does your A/C work? Or what do you have planned? You guys are really good!!

That first pic is of the donor car, right? Or did you transplant the entire 4th gen engine bay into your '88?

That is really nice, although I would hate to change a spark plug, but it sure is worth it.

jeebus 12 hours?!?!?!? thats incredible.

Actually when you think about it, it was probably ten times simpler than your average thirdgen/ LS1 project, being as though the entire front end of the car is all 4th gen.

Either way that car is simply amamzing, and that is one hell of a job you guys have done...

questions answered...

Scania.. we paid $5500 for a wrecked 2000 Z28 with 2745 miles.

CrazyHawaiian.. we used some of the 4th gen doorpanel parts, but hand built most of the pieces using MDF board and bondo. Then just covered it in ultraleather.
AC works... so does everything else. (airbags, abs) we used the wiring harness from the 2000.

RSFreak.. that picture is of our 88 with the LS1 installed. 2 years ago we clipped the car from floorpan forward and welded in the front clip from a 97. We did this so we could run the new suspension. At this time we also installed the LT1 motor that got flooded 2 weeks ago.

ok here's how the motor swap goes....
unhook everything from donor car. Lift front end and drop LS1, suspension and tranny from underneath car.

here's everything out. Notice that nothing is disassembled..

next, lift the front end of 88 and slide everything under. Lower car and begin bolting everything back in. simple....

she's in...

Hey Fatal! You going to make the Thirdgen Gathering in December?

I'd like to use a good sideshot of your car (if you're going) for part of the flyer I'm making for the event. Would that be okay and could you give me a good shot?

not without modifications. We had to relocate the hood latch because of the hood we have(so it wouldn't hit the airbox). We also had to fill in some holes in engine bay(even though it's already 4th gen). It may work if you just dropped motor in, but not if using wiring, ac,blah blah blah..

it just depends on the date. We usually go out of town for x-mas to be with family. I'll look for a good shot.
