Question For All!

honestly how many of you actually believe that 3rd gens are the best camaro's and firebird's made....i know i sure as hell dont...b/c they are the slowest...to make them fast you need a different engine...and most people want 4th gen engines for some reason. in my opinion thats b/c they are better. how many of u agree with me?

How are they the slowest? Have you driven a 2nd Gen at all?

They're the best handling, look the best IMO, though I love 1st Gens too.

Granted 3rd Gens aren't the best 1/4 performers, but it's easier to put a nice engine in it, than rather to have a fast 4th Gen that doens't look as good.

TAs yes, but the Camaros look too much like a Sebring.

Yeah, sure maybe an LG4 or L03, why not think about an L98, they'll keep up with an LT1 pretty good, granted it's not an LS1, but I'll be hangin, beatin stock LS1s, very soon thank you.

Oh, and this is still all accomplished for way cheaper than an LS1 car.

The 4th Gen camaros look like an oversized wedge on wheels...............

The LS1 TA, ram airs are different though...........but the price is just way too damn much.......

You can buy a nice car for cheap that has lots of potential to be fast, rather then spend over $20K for a new one.........

The 3rd gen's are the best handling F-Body IMHO. We must not forget that the Camaro was orginally a drag car, but it evolved into the thirdgen, where is has become more of a road racing, autocross car. Great handling and very torquey right where you need it when coming around a turn. THAT is what a thirdgen is really for..... when you say that are not the fastest in the 1/4 thats because that is not what they are intended for.

Well second gen is a broad catogory. Lets say take my 1977 Trans Am. While it is a 15.XX second car. I think that the that a Super Duty with the 455 would totally waste them.

but why not buy a car that is already fast....in my opinion its a bitch putting an engine in. but thats me. i dont like it. i did it to mine. but next time it will be bought fast. alot easier. and second gens look better than 3rd. 1st look better...and 4th look better....there is only 4 so that would put the 3rd in last.

i like thirdgens becuase they seem to be easier to work on!!
and they can be just as faster, even faster with some mild mods and your still under the price of what a fourth gen cost...

so i like thirdgens, i only buy thirdgens unless i could find a great deal on a fourth i would buy one...

You can make a car as fast as you want, but you can only make a car look so good.

And also, like was mentioned, a lot easier to work on.
don't get me wrong, I still like 1st Gens, 2nd Gens, and 4th Gens, but I love what I got.

Oh, and for the above mention of a SD TA, well if you wanna play that game, how bout a TTA??

then why not just go buy a viper or z06 instead of bithcing about the car you own? IF you dont liek, get rid of it so the rest of us dotn have to hear you putting down thirdgens.

1.) Thirdgens outhandle 4th gen's.
2.) Look better, meanest looking imo.
3.) Cheaper/easier to mod then 4th gens.
4.) IROC-Z's...........
5.) Why are we even having this discussion?

I generally don't like new cars, no personality yet , the 4ths are the ugliest IMO, no real shape to 'em. I would take a 1st gen over a 3rd, but I'm keeping mine forever!!

P.S. 86Street why would you come on a third gen F-Body site to say that they are the worst camaros and firebirds made? Are you just a complete moron or what?

I don't want to flame, so i'll just stop typing now

if i could have a Z06 better believe i would. camaro's are the poor man's corvette. hate to say it. and im not talking crap about my car. i like mine. but there are many i would rather have than that. and yes they are cheaper and cheaper to mod. b/c they are old. they are outdated. its like computers. when something BETTER comes out then what is already out b4 that will become cheaper. people want the best. the best on the market. thats why its so much cheaper to mod. but i think 4th gens with mods look better than 3rd gens with mods.

and i come to this board b/c if u didnt notice i own one. but thats b/c they are so damn cheap and i have to put my money in college. so that i dont have to keep that forever. so i can get a better one

Let's say a new Trans Am is $25,000

A 1992 Camaro Z28 5.7............$8,000

That leaves $17,000 for mods to the car..........

You can make a 92 Z cooler then any new trans am with $17,000

Some people actually enjoy working on cars, it's a hobby

So ****ty quality assurance, cheaper materials, poorer handling, ****ty ergonomics, faulty optispark in lt1's, or oil bruning ls1's are better?

They were so much better, that gm decided to kill them off!!!

You come across as complaining about your car. Ill be the first to say i dont come here to complain about thirdgens. If you dont like it, sell it. No ones forcing you to drive it.

also everyone is always proud that they can beat a stock 4th gen. put the money u have in urs in a 4th gen then we will see which is still faster

What's wrong with a Fox Body stang? they are very quick cars, a few mods, and you're in the 13s..

What makes a Cobra or Saleen so special, unless it's a '93 Cobra or an '03 maybe. And same for the Saleen unless blown, nothing so special about it.

Well there is no right or wrong answer here since this is preferance based. I agree that 4th gens are faster than 3rd gens. No doubt about it. We're driving 10+ year old technology. But if you ask me, 3rd gens are the best because of the look. I just like them more than any other gen Camaro. You can make up for any lack of performance with the aftermarket. Someones car will be as fast as their wallet is fat, no matter what gen it is. I prefer the look of a 3rd gen so I'll stick with it. Sorry that you have to drive a car you dont like. Good luck finding a 4th gen.

Good luck finding a 4th gen.
cant put enough of these in this post:

1.) Thirdgens outhandle 4th gen's.
2.) Look better, meanest looking imo.
3.) Cheaper/easier to mod then 4th gens.
4.) IROC-Z's...........
5.) Why are we even having this discussion?

Exactly!

And you do not need to do an engine swap to be fast
