stupid question about tint

Hey everyone, I've always wondered this but never knew... when you tint your windows is it darker if you use lower % tint (5%) or higher percent (35%). Thank in advance.

yes.. the lower percent means the darker the tint.. here in Mi your back tint can be pretty dark, from what im told as long as an officer can see how many people are in the car when he shine shi slil tear drop lights on, then its ok but the side windows have to be 25% or lighter.

Cool...Thanks man, here in the Vegas Valley of Nevada, they don't really care much about how dark your tint is, with the desert sun and all. I was curious though, cause I wanna go DARK on the back, but not so dark on the sides, plus a dark strip on the windshield would be good to. Thanks again.

Dont laugh, I've seen it, although it was pretty funny. I've got 5% all around. It's kinda hard to see through at night, but looks better than having two different shades on the car IMO. Sometimes I have to open the door to back up, I cant see behind me. Maybe its time to change the reverse lights.

Go with 5% in the back and 10 to 15% on the sides. Most cops won't give you a ticket for just your tint. Now you might get one while getting another ticket like for speeding or something or for giving the cop lip.

And no question is a stupid one except the one you don't ask. That's what these boards are for - To share info.

86NiteRider: Don't you get hassled about your tint here in IL? I got pulled over the first week I brought my Firebird here from Arkansas. I talked my way out of it because you can have 20% tint on the back and 35% on the doors in AR, and I still had an AR plate on the car.

Firebird383: I have only been asked about it twice by the cops, 1 state cop and one local. Never been given a ticket. I just stated that I bought the car in Indiana(a lie) and the windows were tinted(another lie) when I got the car. Never been pulled over for the tint itself. I was stopped for other reasons. Now if I get stopped I just pull the window down then they don't ask about the tint. Besides that I like the look of the tinted windows so I really don't care if they question me or even if i get a ticket. I would beat it in court anyway.

I did that one time in my old Mustang... bad part was it was the middle of winter and 15 degrees out. Cops knew something was up...

I was just a stupid kid back then and ended up with a ticket. Good part was it was a fix it ticket that could be written off. So we took my buddies identical Mustang (without tint) down to the court and they signed off the ticket

Most the time I hear about being people hassled about it, they were pulled over already for a different offense...and at that point cops are normally ruthless

I have a quick question for all of you with 25% or less(darker) on you rear window. How many of you have backed into a car, or a pole, or even a person? With your back windows tinted that dark it resricts your vision at night. I can guarentee, if you go this dark on your back window you will have problems seeing and most likely will back into something all in good time. As for the people who paint your window black. What are you thinking? If GM intended not to have a window on the back of our cars, then it wouldn't be there. Don't paint your windows black, just don't

LOL yeah, we went to the trouble of changing plates, but the judge didn't even walk all the way out to the car. He just looked outside asked me what car it was and said "ok here ya go.." and signed it off.

As far as MI tint, you can go as dark as you want on any rear windows, but the drivers front and passengers front windows must not be tinted at all. What people do is tint the back 5% and then you can't see light thru the car and the rest of it appears dark too. MI state police are d!cks about tint.

In NJ on the side windows you can't put any tint on them at all only way they can be tinted is if it comes from the factory like that. Back window can be dark as you want.

I've got 5% tint on my hatch.. looks really good w/ the blackouts.

Can't see inside the hatch during day or night... only problem is it's really hard to see out the back at night, so when I reverse, I usually have to use my side mirrors, but it's not bad..

Never been pulled over for it either.. although the blackouts..

In Virginia the laws are 50% for the driver and pass windows and 35% on the back glass for cars, and 50% driver/passenger, and as dark as you want on all the glass behind the driver/pass windows for Vans and Suvs.

A lot of us get hassled about the tint and sometimes they have you remove it on the spot.
Here is mine with 35%,

Yes I do. At the very least get some % of tint. Me personally I decided "the hell with the cops" on this item. You have a very nice SC like me. Don't go half way. Besides if you get a ticket you would beat it in court with a reciept that says you paid a tint shop to remove it(even if you didn't), get my point.

I have 11% all the way around on mine, and I don't think it's too dark. Sure on cloudy or overcast days and at night you can't see in, but on sunny days you can see through just fine, IMO.
