Cool, yeah I think TGO needs to do advertising like that. There's a lot of people out there that don't konw about this place.
It's just a quick quip in the reader's letter of the month. It refers to a 1986 Chevrolet advertisement for a '87 Camaro on this site.
Basically, the gist of the letter is that the F-Body became overpriced when compared to the 3rd gen. Unfortunately, the reader has his prices off a little bit. A new 4th gen with a LS1 was not $35,000.
Yes, you could spend that much on an F-body, but you don't have to. A stripper could be had for a lot less.
I think that with 15 years worth of inflation, and the improvements that the F-body's got, another $7,000 over the 1987 price is not unrealistic.

I am sure we all have our theories on why the F-car is now dead. Here's mine. I just downloaded a television clip from 1986 about the '87 Camaro from WWW.thirdgen.or/newdesign/movies. The thing that struck me as odd was the fact the brand-new loaded Iroc Z cost only $12,000 [actually, it was closer to $18,000---ed.] with all the goodies: TPI 350, T-tops, A/C, and all that jazz. The Third Gen F-car was a good design, sort of, for what the car was worth. Basically, it was a killer street car, but sucked at the track. It was designed to make teenagers and college studnets look cook, wich it did, and still does for that matter.
Let's compare that to the '02 Z28, the top of the line Camaro. It has a price tag of about $35,000[fully lowaded; a stripper is closer to $25,000---------ed] I think it's supposed to be a poor man's Corvette. It changed froma a basic car that was fast (compared to the rest of the '80s line up at lease) into a somthing taht was pretending to be a luxury car that was way too expensice for the only poeple who wanted it. The fourth gen was just too expensice to be a common man's car, and it wasn't worth the hefty price tag.

I walked into the local chevy dealer about 2 months ago and I could have walked out of there with a 02 Z-28 for $25,000
black, leather, T-tops, chrome wheels, the works....
too bad I didn't have the money (I don't think I'll ever have the money)

My 87 Iroc, that is not fully loaded, missing 350, option #3, Bose, retailed for 19,000, addition of those options bumped the price over $21,000 in 1987. Considering inflation I do not believe the fourth gens are over priced.
