Here's the secret formula: Fat tires, shiney rims, clean body, shiney paint, clean interior, rumbling exhaust with headers, bumping sound system, pretty women(long flowing hair and tight clothes on) in the passenger seats with the T Tops(you do have some I hope)off on a sunny summer day.
The attention you get will be unbelievable. It makes all the trouble to get to that point worth it.
Those of us that have these pieces of the thirdgen puzzle in place understand what I mean.

My take on being different: Make your car different by making it better. I.E. don't halfass ANYTHING EVER and always use quality parts and upgrades, name brand everything... and down the road, it'll REALLY stand out. And never do anything "different" only for the sake of being different.

Standing out from the crowd is pretty easy to do, unfortunately, anything that is too far from stock is pretty heavily criticised.
What I think you want to do is stand out, but look good at the same time so that no one criticises your ride too much.
Doing something unusual, original, or different is pretty much grounds for conflicting interests of tastes.
The safest thing you can do is get some wheels - good looking ones too. Its amazing how different your car can look, just by adding some wheels.

Most people seem to like my car. So I'll just have to say nice rims, and keep it clean. That alone will help you stand out in by most thirdgen standards. A car thats atleat 11+ years old, the above can help out alot.
