Ok, guys dont laugh at me because i wana try to upt 22's on my car..whats the biggest i could fit on there with out haven to change speedo.? and with out modifying any body?? plz help me and show me some pics if yo u got 20s or bigger!!!!

Well said bub! I mean c'mon, 22 inch wheels? I could maybe see 18"s at the most.....

 

22's?? Why not 17's or at the most 18's? 17 inch wheels with the right size tires will fill up the fender wells nicely and give your ride the right stance.

Well im not sure yet..its a tough joice.. Either im putting 20s or im getting racing rims..DOnt konw yet ..prove me wrong show some picutres!!

 

ive only seen one firebird (?) with with 20's......and it just looked wrong....leave them for the suv's

I saw a thirdgen bird with 20s. Cant find the dang pic. Not my taste but i don't think you can go bigger than 20s without mods

 

i read in a magazine like chevy high performace i think it was, they said the biggest wheels u should put on ur camaro were 17x9.5s. Those are with 5.5 in backspacing. I'm sure u could put 18 in wheels on ur camaro but that would eliminate such possiblities as lowering ur car much. The biggest i would put on ur car are 17s, but thats just my opinion. A pic of my car is attached, it has 17s, however its not a very good picture.

There is a guy in Europe that has 20's on his Firebird....I think it looks nice. I will try to find the link. I think 20's would be the biggest I would go. You also need to get the "right rims". Not getting the right rims will make your ride look like ****.

22"??? dood.. some SUV's cant even fit 22"s... you couldnt even get 22's on the bolts even without tires!!! not even 20"s will fit on our cars...well you could.. but you'd have to raise the body at least 1" , run 35 series tires, sacrifce all ride quality, and turning ability if you even can turn with 20"s. but your speedo would be no where near legible.

anything over 19"s are made for SUV's to compensate the wheel to tire ratio.. its purely a cosmetic thing. My best friend owns "Grand Prix Wheels" in newport beach and i pretty much get all my info from him.

BUT do yourself a favor.. go to a wheel and tire shop(one that has SUV wheels and has a set of 22"s on hand) go in there and ask one of the guys to hold up 1 22'' wheel to your car.. then watch em all laugh...

your 2.8 would have a hard time pushing even 20's. there was an 85 z-28 with 20's and he blew the 305 up from the stress ov lugging those big wheels. you will also lose breaking performance.

Well anything other than the stock size rim and tire will throw the speedo off, but you can fix that. But seriously, I'm sure you could get some 22's on there, but it would probably cost you $10,000 in suspension/body work mods to get them to fit, and the unreasonable price for the rims. So... do what you want.

 

There was a Bird on here not to long ago with 20 inch BBS style rims. With that style of rim they didn't look so huge...The car was not lifted or anything, Sat really nice...Maybe you can find the post, There was also some chrome 19s in that post too! In my opinion bigger then 18 is worthless...And bubbakutz..those are 19s on that first Camaro if I remember rightly, And there was a whole page of that bird with those rims in that post too...

 

I've seen 20's in person. It was on a 88-90 RS with stock suspension. They wheels almost filled up the wheelwells, but there was still a small gap. Not sure if you can drop it to get rid of that gap without causing rubbing issues during daily driving. In regards to the speedo reading correctly, the thing to keep in mind is the overall size of the wheel with tire on it. You can go a bigger wheel size, but then you must tradeoff with a smaller low profile sidewall tire. The guy with 20's was running 35 series tires, but I'm sure his speedo was still off. Find a wheel calculator, I think the corvette forums had one or u can do a search on this board for 'wheel calculator'

 

That pic of the bird with BBS rims is 20's, not 19's. The car has full suspension and over 600 hp. You can do anything you want if you have the $$.

I dont know the sizes of these but I dont like any of them too much. the ta up there looks alright but that iroc vert with the 18's is absolutly beautiful, I wouldnt think about going bigger than them, perfect.

Ive tried loads of different set ups but i now think i have found the best.
9x18"fronts 245/45x18"
10x18"rears 275/40x18"
Also lowered with edelbrock springs.
Dimension from floor to fender lip,front 26.5"rear27"
Overall diameter of f and r tires are exactly the same.
I did have 265/40 all round but the fronts did rub occasionally.Now though on a 100 mile run today,no rubbing at all.
It was my first time out with this set up today and the car felt so much nicer to drive with the thinner tires on the front with no wandering and much better feel.
This to me is the best set up ive tried and while im sure bigger and wider could be made to fit,i think this combination gives the best appearance and handling

Looks like he doesn't want to have to use a jack when he does a transmission swap!....
