Painted my rubber spoiler. Rattlecan

I just got done sanding and painting the rubber wrap around spoiler on my 88 GTA. It looked like crap. The paint was flaking off, it had tiny cracks in it etc. Anyways, I bought one of those Mouse sanders by Black and Decker. That thing is really cool by the way. I sanded all the old paint off, blasted the dust off with high pressure air, and started putting on coats of primer filler. I filled any tiny cracks and put on several coats of primer and sanded it with 800 grit, then 2000 grit. I used the Dupli primer and paint. My car is white so I got the Arctic white Dupli paint at Wal-Mart. I bought five of the 5oz cans. They were less than $3 a piece. Also bought a can of clearcoat. It took all day, but I put on light coat after light coat until it was done. I put on a coat of clear coat and since it was getting cold outside, I brought it in the house where it was warm. It looks awesome. Looks like it was brand new. It matches my car perfectly. Certainly looks a lot better than a white spoiler with big black spots from paint cracking off. I'll get some pics up tomorrow after I mount it to the car and the sun is up. One of my neighbors was so impressed, that we decided to rattle can his entire truck next weekend! It will take a lot of paint, but it's his money and his truck! Matt

You need to add a rubber agent to the paint so the rubber spoiler can flex with out cracking...
but you already painted it
hope it works well for you, you put alot of time in it
good luck!

How can I add a flex agent to paint coming out of a can? This isn't permanent. Just until I can get a fiberglass wing. If it does flake off, I'll simply be back where I started, and out about $15. And since I really have no life what so ever, the day I spent painting is okay too! Matt

They sell spray paint with the flex additive already in it. Try an auto paint supply house. They might have it in aeresol cans. Good luck!

You don't put flex in the paint, you need to flex the clear. Most automotive pants have some give and take, the clear is what needs the flex. How to put flex in a clear rattle can, you got me????
