i used a factory 84 tank. I bought a gas tank sump through ebay from "B4CTom" he's a member on these boards. Anyways I took it to a radiator repair shop and gave them the tank for 2 days with $65 and they gave me back the tank. I showed them exactly where I wanted the sump and they outlined around it and then they cut 5 holes into the tank in the shape of a dice.

kinda like that....then they welded the sump on.....this creates a miniature "baffle" in there to allow the gas to stay in the sump around a turn. Then they baked off the old rust with a torch and painted it black for me. I am sure they filled the tank with an "inert gas" meaning that it's non-flammable so the tank won't explode. Hope this answers your questions.

yea i DEFINATELY didn't want to weld near a gas tank....so off to the professionals with this one. That tank could become shrapnel pretty easily i would think.

Is there room for more fittings in the sump. I want to run 2 fuel pumps one for the carb and one for nitrous and would like enough fittings to hook up both. Or can you weld 2 sumps on? Anyone know where to get the bungs for the fittings, I'm going to run 3/8" line I think?
