Burnouts4ever's Gauges

I finially took some pictures of his gauges. I used around 56-1000mcd red led's. It looks pretty good in person, but here are some pics.

Here is a pic of what the leds looks like without the gauges in. I epoxied the leds to the plastic gauges.

How about doing a custom set up where you dont use a needle, and the MPH light up as you speed up, same with the tach.
Kind of like knight rider, but it accually uses the numbera and dashes as it lights up.

That would def be cool, not sure how to do that tho. It wouldn't be very great on a sunny day, unless you used really bright led's.

I used 1000mcd red led's, i think i used about 54-56 led's. I used this many to make the lighting less spotty and more even, plus the red leds were $15 for 100. I'd say 10000mcd blue led's would def be bright enough. brodyscamaro are you gonna do yours like the tech article or just glue them to the back of the gauges like mine?

I was planning on doing what the tech article said. You just glued them in? How exactly did you do it?

On the gauges in my car i did what the tech artice said. I used 8-5000mcd white leds. The lighting isn't as even as bill's gauges. What i did to bill's was solder 6 led's in series (so i could just hook them up to battery with out resistors) and used 9 sets of 6 leds. Then i just used epoxy from wal-mart, it sets in like 5 mins, to glue the led's to the plastic back of the gauges. You can see how i layed them out according to where the numbers were on the gauges. Its not as hard as it sounds or looks.

Yeah, I see what you are saying now. Did you have to drill little holes in the plastic? How does that white look? I was thinking last night of doing white instead of blue to match my other gauges.....

I didn't have to drill any holes, just put epoxy down and rested the led's against plastic. Unless you have the white faced gauges, blue and white will have a green tint to them. I like my white led gauges, i just need to use more led's in mine to make it more even. I only used 8 led's on mine. I might glue some more white ones soon.

Okay, thanks for the link to that thread. How much of a greenish tint are we talking with stock gauges and white LEDs. To me the big advantage to using white LEDs is that "true" white light. Got any pics of yours? Where did you buy the LEDs? Thanks.

I bought my red led's from www.jameco.com, i dont' remember where i got the white ones. The white ones were like 5000mcd and like 1.75 each, which is cheap.

Here is some pics of my dash..

And the link to the thread for my gauges...

What I am finding out through browsing the www.jameco.com site is that all of the blue LEDs are about the same price ($2.50 to $3.25 each). This includes the 630 MCD the 3000 MCD and the 10000 MCD LEDs. Using only one 10000 LED per stock socket would only put me at a total of $32 whereas - 56 630 MCD would put me at close to $150. Correct? Looks like I will be buying about 15 blue 10,000 mcd LEDs and using some resistors. Using the formula in the tech article I would need 507.5 ohms of resistance. Now, which resistor would I need to achieve this?

Thanks,
Brady
