I want to say I paid like $800 or so, but I went with a fairly cheap paint package.

Glad you are happy with your previous experience.

When I got my Sport Coupe painted two places quoted me I believe $500 more to do the door jambs. Not sure what they'd ask for under the hood, guess it would depend if it was empty or not.

When I worked there a year ago thay charged $75 per opening. That would come out to $300 extra for a 2 door car incl. trunk and underhood. I know you said to not stray off topic, but please dont even consider them to paint your car.

If you are doing your own prep work, then getting it done at macco isn't really a problem. Make sure that you clean with a wax and grease remover (such as PPG's DX330) in the parking lot when you get there, or even better if they will let you do it inside. Urge them to wipe it down with the DX again when they get it in the booth. This doesn't happen to often at a production shop, usually they just use an adhesion promoter and a fish eye eliminator. Teal RS Guy, if there is anyway you can get them to do this, then you should be good to go. Also, check what speed hardner (catalyst) they are using, make sure it is not something entirely to fast, I would say in NJ this time of year a medium would be ideal. Sometimes in an effort to get the car in and out as fast a possible, they will use a very fast hardner so the car will be dry quickly and will have minimal flash times between coats. If this very fast method is used your paint could become hard and brittle and may eventually check, craze and chip easily. Also, make sure they are not using some no-name paint brand...paint is not paint! Think about shelling out the extra cash to get a few extra coats of clear on it (no less than 3-4 total), this will allow you some insurance when you cut and buff it if you intend to do so. Myself and my father run a body shop. If someone brought us a car ready to paint (all prep work done, stripped, etc.) I would venture to say we would do Jambs and all for around $700. Would be using an expoxy sealer for maximum adhesion and a high quality PPG Base and Clear. Keep in mind, this is if all we had to do was mask, clean it and spray it. Cutting and Buffing would be extra. Hope this helped
