cleaning/painting intake manifold (TPI)

I need to replace my manifold, got one off ebay, for some reason its black. What would be a good way to clean it (Inside and out what products to use) w/o f*cking it up at all. Also if I decide to paint it, what kind of paint and what do I need to block off so I dont paint something that shouldnt be painted.

I have never seen a board where so many old threds are always poping up. I guess lack of new topics will cause that LOL!

Re: cleaning/painting intake manifold (TPI)

Since my engine bay is getting painted in the future, I was thinking about using this durable, made for aluminum product for painting the plenum and runners. Thoughts?

majobis... youd be surprised how inexpensive powder coating is...... given its a bit more than cans but less than a paint shot.... it depends is you plan to go back to the same spot you painted and see the ugly flakes comming off and to top it off layering that... i really recommend powder...

Re: cleaning/painting intake manifold (TPI)

Posting this for posterity

had my intake manifold off so I figured I’d clean it up and make it look nice.

picture of manifold as removed:

Had it baked to remove the oils and then glass bead blasted. It came out looking like new.

from there I was thinking to either paint it or apply a clear coat to it. Powder coating crossed my mind too, but from what I heard it insulates the manifold and retains heat. Probably negligible, I went with the paint since it was cheaper.
Ended up using Eastwood 2k high temp ceramic paint. It’s rated for 650F with no baking required.

first time doing something like this. And I’m happy with how it came out. Also did a water pump with the same paint and turned out nice too.
