Car going in for paint and body work, need last minute opinions
My car is going into the shop 2 weeks from now to have the following done:
Shave door handles
Shave antenna
All dents removed
New front bumper and right fender
Complete repaint
"Camaro" grill
New stripe kit (between body and GFX)
There are a few things I'm still considering. I'm not sure if I should get clear side markers or stick with the factory ones. I'm also undecided on the door molding. All of the cars I've seen on here with shaved door handles have removed the molding. Does anyone have a car/pic with it still on? Is there anything else I should have done that I'm missing?
Unfortunately, I only have these two pics and the one in my sig. I took off my GFX today, so I can't take anymore pics.
Thanks, Joe

Negative on the side body molding....
Negative on the STOCK side markers, go with clear.....
Negative on the "camaro" grill, either go with the red bowtie or the billet grill
Negative on the stripes on in-beteween the gfx and the rest of the car...
Just my .02, as you can see from my sig, this is the route that i went with my car....
*EDIT* I would also go with a Z28 highrise spoiler and maybe some 91-92 GFX, since you are getting a new bumper anyway......

Thanks for the reply FLYNLOW (I love your car by the way. Weren't you about to sell it a few months ago?).
I'm wanting to keep the stock spoiler since it's the low rise one offered only in 88. I'm also keeping the car two tone, so I think 91-92 gfx might look a little out of place. The stripe kit is the factory one (thick black thin silver) that is on the car now. Personally, I think it looks better with the stripe kit, the camaros I've seen with the same color paint and no stripe looks a little odd to me. As it is, nobody but me seems to notice the stripe kit. In fact, it seems like most people don't even realize the car is two colors.
As far as the camaro grill. I've already spent over $300 on the front bumper, so I'm trying to finish things up while spending as little as I can. So I may switch to a billet grill later down the road, but for now I'll stick with what I have.

Great lookin car but for some reason i couldnt live with that spoiler, wheels and 2 tone gfx. IM not sure but ur spoiler might even have the same holes as the high rise 1 does. I know i cant change ur mind but imo it would look 1000x better with those 3 things changed.I guess im just in love with the 92z altho irocs come very close. Just if it was my car i would wait and save the money.I mean yeh that spoiler only came that yr but its not gonna be stock neway.

Lose the door moldings (look how nice FLYNLOW's car looks without them) and paint the side mirrors blue to match the car instead of silver to match the ground effects- then you're all set.

The mirror isn't silver, it's in primer. I accidently took the first one off while backing up one day.
As far as the spoiler, wheels, and gfx.
The wheels are the ones that the car came from the factory with. I'm still pondering a 4th gen rear end swap, so that's going to affect what rims I can get and if I need spacers/adapters.
While I appreciate the appearance of the 91-92 camaros as much as anybody, if I wanted a car that looked just like that, I'd go buy one. I'm in the same boat as FLYNLOW, I've spent so much money on this car already that I could have gone and bought a 92 Z or even a 4th gen.

Damn you guys, now you have me thinking
Could somebody either photoshop my car as all one color (maui blue) or explain how to do it. I have photoshop but never learned how to do the cool stuff the guys on here do. Thanks, Joe

Thanks, Joe I almost sold my car for a 1992 Z Vert, but insurance killed my dreams, I'm glad they did, because i like my car better now.....
Here is what i suggest, When you paint the car you need to remove the body molding and stripe kit anyway.......Remove them, and get it painted, if you don't like the new look, then put them back on.....
I say go with one color, IMO

The molding is just held on with an adhesive, right? Any special trick to removing it without denting the door?

Make sure not to try and pry it off, it will dent the door, then you can just grab it and rip it off.....same with the moldings on the fenders and back quarter panel....
And yeah, it's held on with some strong 2-sided adhesive.....

joezero,
If you don't mind me asking, how much will you be paying for the paint and body work. I live about 50 minutes south of you and am looking to get my car painted and have some minor body work aswell. I drove all the way to Salinas last Friday thinking I would get a better deal down there. No luck. $5000 and I'd have to remove a bunch of stuff first.

Goonie, the original estimate I got for: repairing dings and dents, shaving door handles, shaving antenna, repairing some damaged to the driver's side door skin (I ripped off the side mirror while backing up and it tweaked the metal a bit. If you look in the pics you can see the new mirror doesn't sit right), and a complete repaint with the jambs under the hood (since I'm replacing a fender and the front bumper I wanted the engine bay to match) was $1,700. But as with most things in life, it isn't that easy.
The shop I was going to take it to go closed down by the fire marshall. Aparently the building they were leasing was zoned for storage, not for spraying flammable material on cars. So, the owner (Erik) refered me to a friend of his that owns a shop. He's going to do all the body work and then erik will use his paint booth to paint the car. I got an estimate of $600 for the body work including the paint prep. Then the repaint should be around $1K, but that wasn't including the ground effects, so I'm guessing it will probably a little bit more. So I'm guessing by the time everything is all said and done it will be between $1,600-2,000.
Unfortunately, all I have is these guys' cell phone numbers, and I doubt they'd appreciate my giving them out. Plus, erik is openning up a new shop so, if everything works out good, you could probably have him do all of it if you wanted. So if your interested I can let you know in few weeks how everything turns out.

I took round peices of metal off an electrical box fit good. Held them in place with a magnet and tacked them in, then moved the magnet and welded them in all the way. After u clean and grind the welds i cover them with some duraglass. Then sand that down and used a lil body filler to get it almost perfect. Then u prime and use your high build primer then if there r ne lil low spots left use some finishing puddy. I used high build primer on the whole car and got ever lil ding out with a guide coat of black.

O.k., I found this pic online. It looks like it's maui blue, but I can't tell for sure. I saw another car just like this one today and IMO it looked really bad. So at this point I'm thinking of staying with the two tone GFX. On a positive note, I did order the clear side markers and I'm gonna get rid of the body side molding
