I have been in the process of stripping polishing painting and assembling my formula wheels. I have one done have 3 to go.
I think it is one hell of a difference.

I painted the interior with a truck van paint, it had metal flake black metalic. The center caps are new chrome that I go on ebay for $29 and the WS6 centers were from my original caps that I pried out and re siliconed in the center.

I think that I probably have about 8-10 hours in the wheel.
The next 3 should be quicker. I am going to use 120- 180 grit on a power sander for the dish area. Should same time in getting out machining marks

 

basically sanded with 120 grit by hand to get rid of machine marks after I had chemically stripped the clear off.

then sanded with 150 and 180 and 220 and 400. Getting out the marks from the previous grit.

Then used buffing compounds and wheels. Tripoli - hard wheel, Tripoli - softer wheel, White - soft weel then blue magic by hand.

 

That looks much better, great job man

 

i personally like the wheels the way they were before without the black paint, but it definately looks great and looks like quality work, good job!

off topic. how do you like those futuras? wet traction, dry traction, treadlife? i'm gonna need tires soon but dunno what to go with yet.

 

Damn.... I was reading the first post and thought the first picture was what you had done with them... they looked pretty good before.

But wow, I scrolled down. What an improvement! Good job.

 

My dad had the car before me and he put on the futuras, he was quite happy with them. (However, he drives like an old man compared to me).

He paid like $2XX for all four, Cant beat the price. For wet traction, my dad said that they were fine for years when new, by the way the tires have like 60,000 on them now! I got them and they almost needed to be replaced, still do. I have driven a year on them, no winters. The dry traction is still good, with the ws6 suspension I can carve corners well still. In the wet however, I have to becareful, If the posy kicks in around a corner watch out!! But that is a function of there almost being no tread left.

I plan on putting a nother set of futura's on the car next season, because I plan on going with a set of ROH or Boyds 17" in the future and I dont want to have alot of money tied up in tires that I cant swap to new rims.

i have futuras and i think they are pretty bad in the rain.. i dont even accelerate around turns and the back always kicks out. mine are only about a month old and the backs are 265's. in the dryness they are good but when its wet i actually have to be careful..lol

 

Man that looks frickin' sweet. It's posts like this that make me consider keeping the stock rims (replacing the damaged 2) and polishing them like that, instead of buying new ones or using the ones off my 4th-gen (5-spoke aluminum off my 95 Formula).

 

Question, for the interior "crevices" that you painted metal-flake black metallic, did you just tape and spray with a rattle-can? Looks great! I think it looks a hundred times better than stock that way.
