this happened on the 9th of october this year. a big @ss rock was chucked through the rear hatch on my 89 iroc. the insurance told me it was totaled from the cost of the rear glass and the paint damage. glass is 1800 with the new trim included in that price. the paint had 1100 worth of damage. they tried to give me 2950 for the car because it was "in SH!tty condition". i biched it out and got middle book value of 3650, and after said and done i bought it back and my final check was 3418. no i work at a body shop and am in the middle of totally stripping everything off of it for paint. luckily i have another glass, but this still pisses me off.
since my car was totaled because of superfical damage, it will not go into the records that it was totaled, so the record will stay clean. i plan on installing a roll cage, subframe connectors, new carpet, headliner, my built 355, t56, hooker lt headers with true dual side exit exaust, i have tokico illumina struts and shocks i bought just before this happened, and am going to install eibach prokit springs. i am shaving the antenna, replacing all emblems with new, buying new decals and stripes, polishing a lot of aluminum, installing a new rear bumper, front chin deflector, silvania xenarc headlights and mabee xenarc fog and driving lights. i have a long way to go till the complete 9700 black paint is laid down and cured. but when it is done it will be bad @ss.

with that said, there was a thread not to long ago with people talking about it being right to beat the person who did the damage to the said thing. let me say this, i would beat the hell out of who did this to my car, and then call the cops so they could arrest his @ss for his felony 1 offense a couple days later. this really angers me when people do this **** to peopls stuff. they better pray i dont find out who did it.

as you can see i had already cleaned up most of the glass in that pic. here are some of the glass scratches. they were all over the back of the car, on the hood, doors and fenders, and on the t-tops and windshield.

ouch man.....that sucks but at the same time that is a niceee check....lol....im kinda surprised that JL amp stayed there....

 

while i understand how mad it would make you just because someone messed with your baby, you already have the new piece of glass so thats not a big deal...so basically the person just got you a check wrote so you get a free 3000 dollar paint job!!!! Sweeet id love a check like that for some paint damage and a new back piece of glass. Anyways from the sounds of everything youre installing youre going to have one of the nicest third gens around to rub in peoples faces so how bad i feel for you is slightly less. I could find it in me to feel really bad for you though if you wanted to get Me a t-56 though....Just a thought

 

it kinda seems like you're lucking out on this deal... new hatch with new paint all around... sounds good.

however... my car is vandalized once every 2 months on average. EGG SHELLS DO MASSIVE DAMAGE. there are rings of missing paint on my car. I am pissed about it. and i don't vandalism insurance for my car. maybe i should pick some up...

Basically, they cut you a $3,000 check for a broken hatch (which you have a replacement).

Personally, I'd shake the hand of the person that did it....

 

Yeah shake his hand, kick his ***, then smash his rear car window. In my opinion nobody messes with my "black beauty".An eye for eye(ojo por ojo, diente por diente) no matter what the outcome results to be.

 

The real sucky part is that your title will now read as salvaged from being totaled!

You pay them x amount of dollars because they say so but when it comes time for them to pay, it's a big issue.

At least you came out on top.

 

 

Yea I also hate it when someone f**ks with anything that belongs to me. its just wrong, and cowardly. It says I have no ***** gee lemme throw a rock through that defenseless cars window, b/c i know it won't come chasing after me... I am 100% agreeing with you, I would first find out who did it and approach them, and see what they have to say, then start swinging away...

yea i may have come out ahead this time, but next time will be another story. progress on the car is coming along. i have the car totaly striped. the hood was just epoxy primerd (self etching)yesterday, and the underside was painted and cleard with 2 coats. the drivers fender is ready for epoxy primer, and the pass side fender is almost striped. the windsheild will be removed tommarow, and the top of the hood will be painted tommarow.
i will get pick up on here when i get time, i am documenting every phase of every panel. i am hopeing to have the whole car in paint the week after next.

yea i was shocked to see my stereo still there after the broken window. whoever did it was extreamly dumb as there was at least 800 worth in the back of the car.

anyway, i have not heard anything about who did it, and probably wont, but i can hope.

update. the progress has been slow because of the whole car being repainted several times before which slowed the stripping phase. everthing is stripped now and everything but the rolling chasiss is done. it wis goning to be painted this week. here are a couple of update picks.

damn that sucks, i had someone break into my back hatch for my subs and amp, luckily they didnt bust it, idk how they did it, i go outside and its open? like that had some kind of tool, people suck, well some do

 

They couldve lockpicked the hatch key opening.

 

or jam a screwdriver in there, and turn the screwdriver with a pair of pliers.
