a question about making my engine look nice

my car will be a lawn ornament until may when i'm gonna reinsure it and i was thinking about ripping the engine apart and sanding/buffing/polishing it up.. making it nice n decent lookin... maybe even chroming some parts if it isnt too expensive... anyways.... my question... when i do my throttle body plate all nice n shiny, i was thinking of screwin it back on upside down so that i have a totally blank smooth surface, and then attaching a spare GTA fender emblem onto the TB plate... do you know if this would work... engines get mighty hot and i dont know if the glue would mess up or anything or even if the heat might mess up the emblem itself... what do you guys think? thanks

I'm not sure if I would turn the TB cover upside down...and I'm not sure if that would even work. What you could probably do...(if you have the money) is have one made....you could have the GTA fender emblem ingraved in it. It would look smooth and not tacky like gluing an emblem on there. Not saying that it's a bad idea....I just think it would look tacky having an emblem glued on there. Do a search on search engine...I'm sure you could have one engraved for a descent price. Just a thought good luck

the underside of the stock throttle body plate isn't smooth. But, making a flat piece out of aluminum wouldn't be hard if you have access to the right tools.

Mine is carbed... but nice valve covers are one of the easiest ways to make your engine look nicer.

and chrome plating is far from cheap. at least the good quality stuff....not to mention it's more for show motors that are barely driven. once the stuff has a few miles on her the parts will discolor causing it to look a little out of place. the runners are most prone to this for obvious reasons.

polishing is the best way to go since it only costs a little for the supplies and your time.

Wait, hold the phone. If you want a blank throtle body plate to start modifying, they are available. GM stopped putting TUNED PORT INJECTION on them in 92, so all the 92 TPI cars, all the LT1's and all the replacements new from GM are blank. I bought the top plate new from a Chevy dealer about 6 months ago, hoping to get one that said "tuned port injection" on it, but nope. Completely blank. Bad for me, good for you.

hey bytal, they are like $25 or so, and they come with the gasket. And to reply to Kandied91Z, whatever 92 TPI's you have seen that say "tuned port injection" have been changed over from the original plate. I can assure you that all 92 TPI's left the factory with a blank plate on top of their throttle body. Just like most 92's have the crinkle coated runners instead of the regualr f-body smooth runners, the factory was just using whatever they had. In the runner's case, they were using up left over y-body runners, and in the TB plate's case, they were using the new LT-1 style blank plate.
