I was wondering if anyone here with a 1990-1992 Camaro has tried installing the LED lights rather than the regular bulbs in your STOCK instrument panel?
I believe it would look similar to http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...983_7_full.jpg (yes, 4th gen, not a 3rd)
These LED's are definately NOT CHEAP and think it would be better to hear first hand who has already done this.
Anyone here have pictures of the end results of the LED's in a STOCK instrument panel?
Thanks

Many people have installed LED. A price should not be a deterrant to using LED's instead of bulbs. The lifespan, heat, and power consumption all are reasons why LED's are the future. If I had my way (and a little more knowledge), every light in my car would be replaced with some sort of LED.

The money (approx $20-30us) does really matter, it's the wasting of that much (around $30-40cdn) to take the dash all apart and discover it doesn't look good is what does ;-)Originally posted by Sonar_un

Do a search, I know people have done it, and it looked amazing.
anyhoo, to answer your questions
if they were blue, it comes out a cruddy looking dim green color. and where the white shines thru, its blue... it looks bad. if you're going to use blue or other colored LEDs, you pretty much have to have new gauge faces.
knowing what i know now that im getting more and more into building my gauges (i'll post when im done) i should have just stayed with either white hyper bright LEDs, or regular backlighting. using LEDs only, you cant have multiple colors unless you block out the seperate areas and use diff LEDs, ect...
hopefully SOMEONE saved it in time and can post it up
no prob.
if you do want to design your own gauges, scans and basic designs are available here:

when you see oddseys night pic, keep in mind he:
took out the stock faces
replaced them with aftermarket overlays (overlay only, stock face isnt behind it)
then put the blue LEDs in.
and pulled the needles to paint them red
and used red leds to light the needles..
alot of work and such, and at night it looks great.... im not crazy abotu the white face during the day though, but thats my personal pref..
I would rather have a complete Reverse EL glo guage but they don't make them for 1992 Camaro Z28 with 240km/140mph guages. :-(

hmmmm, I was really looking forward to switching my bulbs for blue led's, but if they look like crap..... I dunno
I asked for some for christmas, so we'll see what happens hehe.
But do the blue led's (194 bulbs with led's in them that is) look good with the white guage overlays? If they do I wouldn't mind doing that then.
and like everyone else, I'm looking for pics. Especially LED 194's in a regular guage and with the white overlays.... or just whatever looks good.

yes, LEDs with the overlays (and the stock face removed) they look great. athough making them yourself usually has better light output then the ones you can buy premadeOriginally posted by KBeez

Yeah I've seen Kingdomofmadnes' thread of making overlays, but I don't know if I can make them myself.....
I don't have a good printer, or any of that paper, or anything really to work with.
But if somebody could send me a good guage picture that would work good with blue led's and some instructions on how to get it printed (like go to staple's? and what do I ask them on how to print it?) then now we'd be talking
Mrdude have you done it yourself yet?
thanks!!!
