Finaly got some pics of the car - I'll try to attach a couple. I'm having issues with the gold trim. I feel like it has to stay because it goes well with the interior but it's making choosing a new set of rims a real PITA. I think chrome stuff doesn't look so good but maybe I just need the right style. I kind of like the Vintage Wheel Works mags - V40's. I also have entertained the idea of GTA style wheels too - with a lace center and chrome rim. I was even entertaining the idea of Fikse's - but that would take a year or two to save up for - which may happen anyway.........

So have fun with this but seriously, try to give me some of your best ideas. I'd like to get into 17's, but a fair fall back would be same style stock rims in 16" that could be given the gold accents............

Thanks
Kevin

Car looks awesome!

My 89 is Bright red with the gold accents, and the Beechwood interior. Leave the gold, it'll grow on ya! Mine did.

I agree with the no chrome idea. Most polished wheels look OK, and many have parts that can be painted gold, if you should be so inclined!!! Instead of gold, you can also paint the accents pewter. It's unique, yet still goes with the gold accents.

Here's some Photoshopped -Roh's -S10/ZQ8's and -Fikse FM5's

I'd get rid of the louvers, and get those ROH wheels as posted above...and paint the insides gold like in the picture.

The Fiske wheels are nice but sooo expensive

Thanks for the advice guys and the pics. I know - Fikse's are a serious financial hit but for me, they just might be a reality just because I can take my time saving up for them - I'll have to do more investigating.

Keep the opinions coming. Glad some of you like the car so far.

Abubaca - nice to see you're not so far away from us here in Blacksburg! Perhaps this spring when we get the car down here from Michigan we can bring it down and meet up to talk IROC's.

ABUBACA --- I think it's only about 2 hrs, give or take a little bit. I was just through there on my way to Raleigh - I came down 77, then 74 to 52 I think. I also drove it one time from Roanoke coming down 220. It's not a bad drive at all.

Now - I'm not making this into nor do I want it to become a louvers discussion because I have not yet decided what to do with them. Yes they are faded and don't look so good for that reason - I do not disagree. You all can say whatever the shnizzle dizzle you want about them but I'll be ingoring your prefrences for now cause I need to work it out for myself - I just got the car, it's my first fun car that isn't a necessity for getting from point A to point B, they came on it and they right now have some sentimental value for me with the car.

It is interesting to me though, aside from just this thread, most of the time when louvers are discussed the younger of us are the majority that don't like them - maybe it's all about a generation difference? I'm not really being serious. Truly, I like this site a ton because of the fact that there is a strong less-than-21 crown here that should be commended for their level of maturity - kudos guys.

WAY, WAY off topic. STILL NEED ADVICE ON WHEELS!!!!!!!!!! What do you think of just picking up a set of 16s in the same style and getting them refurbed?

My votes are as follows:
1 Ronal Firehawks 17X9.5" (gold inserts)
2. Gold GTA crosslaced
3. Keep your IROC'S

Yeah, the Ronals with gold inserts would look SIC!:hail: Plus, no one else has 'em. I was thinking of doing that too....but I love my Irocs too much. I'll post a pic. I chopped the gold on the R15'a, lemme see If I can find it.

As for the younger guys and louvers, it seems you're right, most of you young-uns don't like 'em. I like 'em , er... but not enough to get a set. I like my thirdgen because I loved 'em back in the eighties when I was getting into cars. They were the hot ticket. I think a lot of you younger guys see them as cheap performance platforms first, and after you buy them, THEN you fall in love with them. I think that's why all the modern modifications are so popular. I actually like the fact that my car looks "eighties". Of course, some of us older guys are modding the heck out of your cars, and some of you younger guys are joining the ranks of us stocknazi's....so what do I know!!!

We're all one big happy family of thirdgens!!!

I'd go with the FM/5's but man, those are some expensive wheels, $800 a pop for the sizes I want.

OK, who's being a post wh-iz-ore!

If your even thinking about it, then I'd re-finish a set of 16" 88-90 Irocs . My gold paint was pretty good, but I polished mine, and I think they look awesome. In the pic, they're kinda dull, but they clean up and look amazing. It's a whole lot cheaper too.....rims AND tires!

...I think here on TGO, polsihing is just another cool appearance mod, but when I'm actually out driving, or at a show, you'd be amazed at the attention that the polished Irocs get! One guy asked how I was able to chrome plate just "parts" of the wheel!!!

If 16's work then these have a very good looking and agressive
stance on a Camaro. At least I think so.

They are Centerline's, 16x8 and not too spendy either.

Hey Daytona T/A - thanks for the comments. I'm pretty torn between it's current looks which I, like you, like just how it is, and the performance gains from bigger wheel and treads. I wish I could get the same style wheels with the same gold background accents in a 17" wheel - that would be about perfect I think.

Thanks again guys - I am getting lots of ideas - thanks.

I think the rims you have are already awesome. but if you're looking for a change I like the Fikse rims show above. Sound like WAY too much money though! The Gold GTA wheels sound like a good relatively inexpencive option.

Hey all-

Thanks to the guys that are supporting my puny 15s - makes me feel like I shouldn't be so dowm on them after all. I appreciate the comments and input for alternatives. Still haven't made my mind up but I'm thinking about just going to 16s and forgetting the 17" idea. I might just try to find a set or piece together a set of 16s in the exact same style - sounds like I can't go wrong there.

But I do appreciate all the ideas - keep 'em coming.......

Hey I think your car looks pretty cool right now. Just think, there are tons of people who would love to have their car look as nice as yours does now. (me included hehe)
And those wheels Abubaca photoshopped look amazing! Wow, those would look cool, but I'm also interested in how you can photoshop a new color like that but keep the shine and reflections.

And abubaca, do you ride bmx? I see your name is abubaca, a bmx trick, and you live in the middle of one of the biggest riding scenes in the world.....

Excellent!!!! That is the best compliment I've had on it yet - means a lot. So maybe I'll just be content until I tear up the current meats and am in need of new rubber - might take a while though, those Eagle GT IIs are nearly brand new.......

But hey, really appreciate the compliment Daytona T/A - you have my gratitude.

C-Ya!

P.S. to Abubaca - I was also wondering how you did your photoshop color-fill - but to keep the thread nice and tidy, you can pm or email me if you have time - no biggie, I understand if you're too busy - time seems to always be at a premium for me......

If you want to be somewhat original maybe get some 17" or 18" IROC replicas and painted the gold accents like your stock IROCs are. Beautiful car man.

I would go with Cragier SS rims, Just my prefrance, most third gen people dont like them. I have 2nd gen cragiers and my girlfriend has the SS ones on her Camaro, it think it makes the car look bad ***. Chrome goes with anything good. Also, why is it everytime someone has a pic with louvers a big argument is started? I LOVE THEM! plus, its not the topic. The man was askin about rims, not the look of his car. Bas *** car man, like the 3 piece louvers myself, and the rims are nice either way. Look sharp as it it, and i bet people like your car as you smoke thier POS 4 banger. Keep it up

I do like the five-spoke hot rod style rims refering to the Cragars - just not sure I agree about chrome on this car only because it has no silver accents at all - it's all a gold color. Oh, and thanks for the louver compliment; this is still not a louvers thread though

As for 17" IROC replicas I just wish they were made in the style of the '88-'90 IROC wheels - all I've found are the earlier style wheels in a replica, like what they have at Hawks. I'm just picky like that - If I could find the exact same look in a bigger rim then I'd really be saving up the bucks to do just what FlyinLow89 said. I'd bet having the project contracted out by a CNC shop would be rediculously expensive - but the though had breifly crossed my mind.

I like what you've got, so I'd say go with 16" in the same style with gold accents if you can't find better.

The GTA rims I love (no price so far has gotten me to part with mine, and I've been offered several times), and since they came gold maybe you'll get lucky and find a decent pair needed no freshening up. I don't know how I'd feel about them on a Camaro though, I'm used to seeing them on Firebirds, just like I don't know how I'd feel about IROC rims on a bird.

-No chrome on the Iroc please!

-I'd say go with the 16" Irocs, just like mine (since you like the gold)!

- 88 to 90 style 17's would be cool....searched high and low a few years back, and decided to stay with my 16"s.

- To change the color of a "part" of an object, like the spokes and keep the accents/reflections is easy. I'm assuming since you guys asked, you have photoshop.

---Push Q to enter quick mask mode.
---use the "brush tool" to highlight the part you want to change. It will highlight the painted parts in a light red color
---Push Q to exit from quick mask mode. ( you will notice the black and white "select" line aroung the parts you want to change.
---from the edit menu, "copy" the selection, then "paste" the selection. The "paste" will create a new layer with only the selected section. Now you can go into the color balance menu, or any of the "adjustment" slide bars, and you will only edit the specific part!!!

I need to make a sticky in the PS board!

Sounds pretty straight forward and yes, I do have PS - 7.0 and Elements, one just came after the other and I'm still learning. I bet mastering all the intricacies of PS takes a while.

I'm really starting to think I'll just take my time and look for a set of 16s in the same style - I'll just slowly piece a set together so that I can get wheels in the best condition possible regardless of color because it should be simple enough to get them refinished. I just want wheels that are in very good condition first and foremost.
