lower radiator air dam? esp on lowered 3rd. gens

i assume this would be the place for this if not then im sure it'll be put were it needs to be.

my ? is for everyone who has the lower air dam on the cars.
i have a pic im attaching to avoid confusion
i held mine in place the other day n its aweful low close to the ground. does anyone have probs w/ it draggin alot?
or has anyone notcied any difference in colling w/ or w/o it for comparison?
thanks manily worried about it draggin the ground my car sets up normal and looks to be on the lower side of air dam an inch or 2 off the ground and im thinkin about a 1 inch to 1 and half inch drop later and id say that would bring it down more.

It'll drag. Mine does on pretty much every dip or speed bump. It really won't ever drag at speed, unles there is a big drop in the road. Here is a pic of my car in about 2-3 inches of snow and notice the air dam. Or should I call it the plow? They are really pretty strong and resillent, but I bought a few of them (got em in my crawl space) so when I break one I can just replace it. My car is lowered 2" in the front with BellTech spindles.

You definitely need that piece to keep your car cool. If it does drag the ground all the time when you lower it, you can trim it up a bit.

I took the air dam off my old 86 Camaro because it dragged on everything (it was dropped via bell-tech spindles). The car never did get hot. The car only had a 2.8 and I had a cowl hood that was open in the rear.

On the other hand, my Firebird was running hot until I put the air dam on it (the same one I saved from the Camaro). It also has a cowl hood, but a 383 small block.

The Camaro's get a whole lot more air through the front bumper than the Firebirds. In a Firebird, you can cout on overheating if you don't have that air dam on there, you might be able to get away without one on a 82-84 with a mechanical fan, but 85 & newer, no way. It'll drag, but after a few times, you just expect it, so it doesn't sound too bad after a while.

well after checking it out today i guess it mounts on the bottom of the radiator in the front which is were my lower under skirting goes on my 86 sport coupe so i cant figure out how it would mount w/ that skirting on there it is factory skirting its open in middel and it comes up to the bumper to cover the park under the park lights n goes all way back to the radiator and i cant figure out how it does mount w/ them in place does anyone have any more pics of em on there car esp on camaros sport coupes mainly since thats what mine is.
mine only has the 2.8 as well but no cowl hood.

I was having an overheating problem in my 91 Firebird when I first got it. Replacing the thermostat, flushing the radiator, and installing an air dam that was mysteriously missing, it solved all my problems. Doesn't even get up to 190 anymore.

I used to have an 85, and never had an overheating problem, and it didn't have the dam.
