Buyin new wheels can't decide HELP!
I Performed a search on this but found out there is alot of different opinions. I am going to be purchasing a set of telstars for my car and can't decide on the rear size. I want to buy the 15x10's 5.5" backspacing and run with 26x11.5 ET Streets. I haven't been able to find anyone with this exact combination. Anyone running these? do they rub when cornering?at launch?got any pics? I might just end up getting a 15x8 and a 26x10.5 ET Street to be safe.i'm not sure which backspacing to go with on the 15x8 though. I need the most bite i can get, but i don't wanna be dealin with chewed up tires all the time. THANKS!!!!
I have 15x10 prostars with 5.5" backspacing. I do not think the telstars are available with that backspacing, only 5". Anyway, I ran 28x12.5's at the track, and 295/50r15's on the street and do not rub on the street, and haven't with the M/T's but they are close. I would run no less than 5.5, mine are on the edge of the fender. I masaged the inner fender and rolled the lip.
i don't mean to be off topic but those of you who run these tires what 60' times are you getting? while i like the look occasionally on the cars and those that are really fast sub 9's and the rest i can understand i'm just curious how much quicker you can accelerate than the rest of us with just street dr's because on the street they don't ride that great.
my car is a 5spd and it has totally stock rear suspension for now. I could only muster a 1.98 on a set of DR's that I had. I only had the M/T's on for a while, first time I launched on them was on the street and I took it a little easy and the hooked hard, did a couple more, felt awesome. Went to the track, 1st launch at 4000k, smoked the CF/DF clutch...think it might have yanked a tire if the clutch would have held. Sold the M/T's to pay for the clutch...LOL
I just looked on the centerline website and no i can't get a 5.5 backspacing so I think that i'll go with the 15x8's. What backspacing fits the best on the 15x8's?I'm just gonna go with the 26x10.5
I have a set of the 16 x 8 Telstar's and I believe the back spacing is 4.5 inches but I can't find the paper work to be sure. They are the same front and back and everything fits and looks good.

Did you read the above? If it hooked hard enough to break something, when it had not before, of course the 60ft would have improved. With regular street tires, the best the car could get was a 2.2+ 60ft (12.4 @ 117.9 best), that is feathering the throttle and short shifting to 2nd. I got into the 1.9's with just the addition of drag radials (275/50r15), short ones at that! If one were to go to a taller drag radial it would have hooked better because of more linear track on the ground.
As for backspacing with the 16x8, 4.5" would be fine, but the factory 8" rim had 5" backspacing I think.

I like those telstars/prostars, very good looking rim even in 15" size. for any back spacing on our cars 15 x 8" rim backspacing is 4.5" or 0 offset.
And those of you with Z28's, Formulas, and GTAs the 4.5"/0ffset would stick out very little and most likely would never notice it.

IROCFAST are you talking to me?? of course i read what you said and you didn't put how they improved. a 1.9 on dr's isn't that great and definately not for some e/t's if thats what you had.
i just wanted to know how fast the 60's are with guys running the rediculous fat e/t tires. just want to see what the fuss is.........you know tires like this. does anyone have a 60' on e/t's?? unfortunately these wouldn't work with my car so i never got to run down the track but i'd like to know what the average e/t some of you are running with them.

You asked if they improved... 3 tenths is a pretty big improvement, granted the 60' still sucked (being a 5spd kills it). Guess I should have stated the time difference. But to answer your question, I have a good friend with an 88 IROC, stock rear suspension, lowered, 700R4-2800 TCI stall/stealth ram, edelbrock headed 355 and he pulls low 1.6's all the time. That is pretty good for a street car even on M/T's. The D/R's gained me .3 and never got to run it on the M/T's which would have helped me gain quite a bit more.
