Ram Air 2 hood Fitting Issues?

I have had my Ram Air hood on for a while now but it has been quite cold so I have not had any time to really work with it until today. I am having problems with the hood sitting up to high on the drivers side. Here is a pic of how it sits on the car.

I got to looking at it and thought it was resting on the windshield washer bottle so I pulled it away and shut the hood and it still sat the same. I know it is resting on the screen around the windshield wipers but wasn't sure about up front until I really got to looking.

I found that it is sitting on the radiator shroud on the far end. It isnt the best pic but you can kind of see where it has been rubbing on the shroud. There is a spot that sticks out little bit and you can see where the paint has rubbed away.

And here is where it is rubbing on the hood.

I had a friend look at it and he suggested just notching out the area on the hood so that the part on the shroud will tuck up in there and lower the hood.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions as to what I should do?

Could you do me a favor. Look under the hood and see if anything has been modified, either on the hood or the car, to make the hood fit better. Or take a pic, if you have access to a digital camera and take a pic for me of how it sits witht he fender. It seems as if yours sits a little higher on the drivers side. I unhooked the shock that holds up the hood and it seems to come down a little but i think if i take the screen off and notch the hood it might come down just enough to sit better. It just doesn't want to sit right and I want it looking better before I get it painted.

I enclosed a pic of exactly where my hood was hitting. I put paint on the hood where the rub mark was, and this is where it left paint, so I banged it down on both sides, then lowered my hood latch to the lowest spot, and lowered the hinge rests lower, and mine lines up better now. If u'r not familliar with them the hinge rests are bolts that have a round rubber boot that sticks up near the back side of the hinge, pop the rubber boot off and lower the bolt to lower the back side of the hood. Worked good for me, good luck.

I have those bolts at the back of the hinge as far down as they can go. I may have to take the rubber boot off and leave it off. Was yours rubbing in the front at all where mine was or just in the spot that you marked?

take a hammer and knock down that high spot where it rubs, do it on both side and it will fit better, do a search and you'll find results. This question has been asked a million times.

The questions been asked a million times because these hoods simply SUCK when it comes to quality. Its a shame too, it would be a really nice looking hood IF they ever fit right, but I have yet to see one that does without alot of unneeded work. What a waste of $600 after shipping... the company making these should be ashamed of themselves.

You and me both bro, I have the same problem. I have managed to get it fitting a lil' better though. I think I need to do some more "convincing" with my hammer though.

Thanks for those pics. Your hood seems to be sitting the same way mine does. I think it has a little to do with the hood struts but mainly the spots were it is rubbing and the screen by the windshield wipers. Look to see if your is sitting on it as well. On my next day off I am going to try and take that screen out and see how it sits in the back then maybe tackel the front. Thanks for everyones opinions on what to do, they are helpfull.

I was actually considering getting a RAII hood but now I am not sure. I never heard of the fitment issues until now. Isn't there a couple companies that make this style hood? If so is one better than the other? Thanks.

Did anyone try removing there hood spring and using an Augr to grind out the hole in the hood hinges so that the bolts that hold the hood to the hinge can be pushed lower, there for solving your hood line problems. By grinding the bolt holes in my hood and removing the hood spring I was able to obtain a perfect fit. I will post pics as soon as I paint the damn thing. Good luck guys.

I did modify the bolt holes in the hinge and got it a little better when I put it on but after I got it painted, the friend that painted it for me looked under the hood and on the hood where it rubs on the radiator shroud, you can see in the pics that I posted first, he grinded it down and it fits a hell of a lot better. It could still use a little more but I am really pleased with it now. You can try this as well to get it to fit better. I will get some pics of what I am talking about if anyone wants to see them.

If you trim the turned down back lip at the back of the hood you will be able to get the whole rear of the hood to fit your fender contour. Rex
