I didn't know that any tpi cars came with rear drum brakes... A friend of mine has 2 irocs with tpi 305's and they have rear disks, was it only irocs and the 350 z28's?

Rear disc was an option on just about anything. My '87 IROC has rear disc but my wife's 90 IROC with 305 has drums.

It should be easily noticable. If Im not mistaken theres part on the right side of one of the pics near the wheels, one big spot in another, and is there supposed to be gray/red combination all underneath the car. To me it looks like it was jacked up on a lift and sprayed and some got underneath the car. I still dont trust much ebay deals like this unless theres documented proof. RPO codes? or something

Not my color or drivetrain choice but that still is one amazing car. Sure is one of maybe a few hundred or less prestines(sp?) left out there.

That overspray you see is maybe undercoating..?

He shoulda added that there were only 1,254 convertable Z28s that year from what i read in a book i have.

You could only get rear discs on convertibles in 87 and 88.
89-92 were all drums in the rear.

Coupes are different.

I see VERY few 90-92 speedos that are 145. MOST are 115. My wife's 90 IROC has a 115 speedo but has the same motor.

Hmmm how are you guys getting away with his??? Other section of the board they will delete or edit threads about Ebay stuff. Even if you just put item554231 they will delete it.

As I guess Ebay links are useless as they go bad and the rule is to delete everything.

I did that the other day. Just posted the item number and it got my post deleted.

The car didnt have rear disc because it is a 5.0 auto convertible, in 1992 if you wanted rear disc's that required G92, which was only available on the 5.7 cars, which were all G92 that year, or HARDTOP 5 speed 5.0's

Same thing with the 145, its a G92 item

Nice car though

I'm not doubting that it is a 20kmile car but there are several questionable things that I see with this Z.If it wasn't for the interior and a few other things that would make me doubt it is a 20k mile car ,notice the oil on the k-member,steering linkage(that or it was clear coated for shine),there's grease or something to the right of the driveshaft(rear)also it has been repainted with overspray all over it especially ..the wheel wells. It even has paint on the O2 sensor wire. There's paint on the:A-arms,rear axle(that's not all rust there),everywhere on the floorboards(my car's factory original paint isn't oversprayed that bad!).....I never knew that our cars came with body colored wheel wells.

I may have been repainted and still only have 20K on it. I met a guy from Minneapolis, his car only has 22,000 on it, and it could use a paint job, it's a Van Nuys car and wasn't properly stored when it wasn't driven.

Paint didn't hold up well, particularly on Van Nuys cars. The body shop should have done something about the overspray though on this car.

I also see the overspray on the a-arms and i definately see it on the rear axle. It looks clean and to me, definately worth the asking price but who knows,it could be a shady deal. still for the condition, i doubt you could go too wrong.

I think you could get 2 12 second irocs for the asking price. This deal seems too weird to me. Im glad some of you see the overspray I mentioned.

A few other things that I noticed, new swaybar endlinks and the driver's side spring seems off. Also there is black spraypaint on the harmonic balancer.I still can't get past the greasiness of the underneath part of the engine and k-member.There is even oil(or some substance, probably a cleaner) pooling on the lower radiator hose.

EDIT:Upon further looking at raptor's '86 there is more overspray than I remebered(thought that it was next to none, been 2 years since I last saw the pics of it) but it's NOT/nowhere near as bad as what this Z has .

Why are the guage needles red? And what color interior is that? Looks too light for Med Beechwood I think...

so aside from all the negativity, its still a damn fine lookin third gen imo...but he does say its a 9.8 outa 10, so the extra .2 must be the new paint and possibly rebuilt engine...also look at the scraapes on the muffler

The interior is technically correct. He said Medium Beechwood, which is wrong, but whatever the name, it IS correct for 92.

Here is my diagnosis. I do not think the car was repainted. Granted there is over spray in the wheel wells but that is from painting the calipers and drums. I would bet that they only masked off the rotor and not the caliper when they painted them that bright red. The rest of the over spray is normal GM painting.

My car is a 1990 in the same exact color from van nuys as well. I have the same exact overspray on the under side of the car. Even though the car has low miles it can still leak oil due to age. My car sits with 34,000 miles but was purchased 4 years a go with 21,000. It is funny when i would start my car up with 21,000 miles and it would blow smoke. Sure, we all know it is the seals but the car has so little miles on it. The underside of my car looks almost identical to that. I did see one oil drip in one pic but everything else looks to be the same as mine. That drip could be from an oil change or someione getting sloppy with the oil filter and the oil running down and collecting at a point. His front end links have been changed but that is no big deal.

Well then apparently the people who painted these cars their abilities to paint them were great to downright atrocious? As for the calipers/drums I guess everyone does them differently but usually they would take off those parts to paint them or do a better job of masking things off. Also when people paint them still on the car they are usually sitting/kneeling right in front of it so the paint wouldn't be at the top of the wheel well but all over it and just a lite mist(hardly see the overspray). I still say that it was repainted.I not sure that I buy that oil thing one bit.Look at raptor's '86,though it may have something to do where the car is kept.It has not even 3,000 miles on it, is hardly ever driven(may be the reason why there are no leaks but still) and there are no leaks or oily parts anywhere.Shoot my 139K mile Z doesn't have hardly any leaks on it except for the oil pan(has a oil like sheen on it) and the rear of the tranny leaks a little.

oh well,peace:lala:

Ya I think if your gonna paint a part your gonna take it off. Theres quite a few fishy deals on ebay and this is one of them. I think someone should post a comment inside the auction itself maybe the owner can verify. Not like hell admit it.

Good point. There is always fishy deals out there and you are right. Buying a car based on pictures only is not a good idea. However some poeple do silly things with thier cars and they could have painted them on the car. I have seen a million of uncle bens finest do this. GM painting methods were not too bad but they didn't mask off everything (talking about floor pan area here).

Yeah, it sure looks nice. But if it's only got 22,000 miles, should that Y-pipe, cat, and suspension be so rusty? The rest of the undercarriage seemed to have "cleaned-up" way too nicely to be the same age as the chassis/suspension.

So it's either got more than 22,000 miles, or it's sat in the snow for 12 years, lol. Maybe THIS particular engine/tranny combo only has 22,000 miles, hmm?

But redone or not, it's very nice looking.

Been looking at "sellers other items" and this guy sure moves some nice stuff. LT4 heads, new carbs, used intakes. Either runs a speed shop, or a chop shop maybe. Car might be the real deal. I'm wondering if the wheel well overspray is just a lighting/camera deal? Those brake drums are a joke. Wouldn't tis car have had discs back there anyway? Says it has a Z28 handling package?
