If there is grease, there is no rust!
So why removing it?

Things like leaking transmissions and leaking rear main seals and even leaking steering boxes can lead to a very greasy undercariage.

id leave it covered in grease or oil. Least it aint rusting.

Id welcome a control oil leak that covered the bottom of my car. But control is the key. Thought several time of dumping my old oil into a pump up sprayer n have at the under carriage.

I personally to clean off the bottom of my car (total repaint, inlcuding underbody) used simple green, straight up in the spray bottle and sprayed the underside, then used a plastic scraper to just start scraping it all off. I also used a blow torch for some of it, and wire brushes... and I am still not done. It takes forever... but for a show car it is worth it...

I would go ahead and clean it with a pressure washer and a degreaser additive.

Don't worry about rust, unless you live in the rust belt.

How much effort was required after the purple power? Might need to get me some of that!

Basically I took a scotch brite pad and purple power, generic version of Castrol Super Clean, applied and rubbed in circles, When the pad got clogged with gunk I rinsed in very hot water to "degunk"it and continued. I was more or less removing the old undercoating and dirt/junk when I did it. It did take a while but I think it was worth it. I still have the a arms to do, I plan on doing them when I do my LS1 Brake swap next month.

If your gonna go that far you'll need a lift. But it does look nice if you can. i just don't see it happening with jack stands.

At the local dollar store we have a stuff called mean green. Its the super cleaner of them all. Works wonders in a rug cleaner too. greasy 10 year old boots prints were removed. Stuff is a dollar of course.

Cleans tire like a dream if you got a car with white walls.

Pressure washer, why didn't I think of that, I have one too.
That just make my underbody cleaning project much easier, I plan on cleaning the whole thing and giving it a coat of Por-15.

Try using some liquid dawn dish soap. That stuff cuts grease like mad and you can get a bottle for like 80 cents.

the undercarrage of my car was amazing when i bought it..

it was a 1 owner vert that spent the past several years stored in a garage...... the undercarrage was SPOTLESS. no rust. no oil leaks... nothing... completely clean.

currently the only mess under there is what the PS pump started doing.... but the car is still clean..

Yeah, B12 Chemtool tears it up! You KNOW the stuff is strong when it makes you dizzy OUTSIDE! NEVER use it inside or you're just asking to pass out and wake up minus a grip of braincells
