Camaro hood opens like Corvette!
Just thought I'd post this for everyone who hasn't seen it... I noticed it in the June edition of HOTROD magazine the other day. It's a blue Camaro with a hood modified to open like a Corvette...sure wish there were more pics. of that car:lala:
P.S. -cut down the pic. for size reasons

Actually the way some do it is by mounting a late 80's Buick Park Avenue's hood hinges, that is how that particular car's hood opens. This topic has been posted here before.

just because a 'vette has it, or it doesnt come from the factory that way doesnt make it a good mod. i wouldnt pay $0.05 for that kit installed if one existed...
twin paxton chromillusion 91z featured in phr as well as on phr televisoin.....along long time ago.
nice car and a fortune wrapped up into it.
can be seen here. i tracked down the owner once just to talk about a few things. he was rather nice and willing to discuss parts of the car. have no idea who owns it now.

What do you guys say it would be so hard to work on? I can see the front of the engine being a little tougher to do, but not that bad. When I was working on a 280 ZX (hood opens "backwards") it was no big deal.

I have the tilt mechanism and donor hood for test fitment and modifying. I'm excuting the project when the hood comes off to pull the motor. I've been meaning to do this for some time now, a year this summer, the parts have just been collecting dust since
I made a thread about it here.
Here is a picture of the mechanism in action (from an early 90's Buick);

im still trying to figure out how it would be harder, since you pretty much have to work from the side of the car anyways, or lean over the 2+ feet of empty space in the front
and now access to the rear would be so much easier
best hood i seen was a cowl hood on a dodge charger, the guy used 4 electric rams to lift it straight up first, then it went back a couple feet over the roof..

I was just wondering if any of the folks in this thread have attempted or completed this mod? I have thought about trying this eventually. As far as access to the engine, I would imagine for this to even work the hood has to be severly slimmed down. The stock hoods are heavy as $h1t. I would imagine a fiberglass hood is needed and as such you could most likely remove it if you really needed to get access to the front of the car.

Lotsa fab work in this setup but this is Way more like a "VETTE" front clip.
NOT MINE..... just a guy Ive been talking to online to work out all the details on the setup. (because my car is in the process of doing the same mod)

In terms of working on the car being more difficult, all your doing is trading front accessiblity for rear accessibility. I consider that a proper way a hood should hope. If it were done on a firebird it would certanately make taking out the headlights assemblies difficult.
I like the hood opening style, although if you could get a clamshell style hood like vipers and c4 vettes then that would be total access
not to mention the "super cool" factor.
