Ok I ran into a guy awhile back that claims he cut a GTA rim in half off of an f body and it was made of plastic, now I need to find something that proves they are metal the dude thinks he is right and I swear he is on crack he works on cars and claims he knows more than me because of his many years of experiance, I need some help here with this.

 

Well, is he a red-neck?
Does he spray cars without masks?
Does he stick half eaten gummy worms into his nose then re-eats them again?

if so then, this could be a sign that he's a moron.... and i strongly suggest to stay away from him, not because he doesn't no what hes talking about but hanging around someone like that can get you hurt, injured, or even cause death

that GTA rims are not made of plastic nore have any materials in them that are even close to having plastic composites... besides the center cap...

 

LOL wheels made of plastic wouldn't hold the weight of the car...he is a mechanic? Dont let that man get within 100 feet of your or anyone you care about's car! They are cast wheels AFAIK.

Have him hit a set with a hammer. If he can't tell the diff in sound between metal and plastic...there is no helping him besides locking him up and taking away any mechanical certifications he has.

 

All GTA rims are cast aluminum. He is either an idiot, or thinks that you are and is trying to bait you with a lie. Either way, he is definately not someone you want to associate with in any way. Arguing with a moron only takes you to his level. You have nothing to prove, avoid him.

'74 thru '76, the early Trans Am "snowflake" wheels were called "comp cast", and were a steel wheel with a urethane snowflake bonded to them on the outside (similar material to the GTA wings). They are pretty rare now, and were heavy as hell. But they were a steel wheel underneath.

I have a bent GTA rim that cab be cut open to just to make sure. But I'm sure he'd change his story to only the '87 style were or only 1le wheels were.

 

My GTA wheels are made from a composite material. They came off of a stock 88 GTA.

 

i wonder if they could make carbon fiber gta wheels. That'd be awesome, super strong super light.

That'd be awesome if any wheels were made of carbon fiber.

One pot hole would shatter any CF wheel. Carbon Fiber is strong but rigid. It can take stress spread out, but if it gets hit it shatters.

Well I know what the question was...and its easy to tell they're aluminum, however that has been covered..my reply was towards what I just quoted. It might be off topic, but nevertheless I was trying to educate someone that there are in fact wheels made of carbon fiber.

 

Yes, way OFF topic and who cares what Bike wheels are made of on a 3rd gen car form.

Afterall he said any CF wheel, therefore a motorcycle wheel would fall under that category.
