to the best of my knowledge all stock valve covers on F-body TPI applications were steel (though some were painted silver), so no they can't be polished. The Vette ones can, though.

If they were aluminum, they could be polished....but..I don't think ours are. I cleaned mine real good and painted black lines down'em....looks pretty good...

The corvette covers are an aluminum/magnesium composite and can be polished, but it's a bit of a gamble because the high magnesium count results in a lot of imperfections that show up as bumps or knots when it's polished. The TPI components suffer from this too, but my understanding is that it's much worse on the valve covers.

But..

I was not easy, and I ended up replacing them because they did not have quite enough shine for me

looks pretty good...but man, looks like you definently need a brand new set of tanks! That would really enhance everything!

84customZ28 did you just flip the drivers side valve cover around? i have never thought about that it would make filling the oil so much easier

I don't think you can flip the valve covers around, the holes are not perfectly centered. You can switch from left to right but not flip them end to end. Mines in the rear as well, but I remember reading a thread ages ago where this topic came up and apparantly some were done differently
