Why does this always have to happen....

My first car show......just got her back from the body shop not even a week ago to have some minor fender work done. I was stopped at an intersection and when the light turned green...proceeded to go through, some guy ran a red light on the left and creamed my baby!!! Thankfully i was ok...and so was the other person..but now i have a fight on my hands cause the person is saying he had a yellow light. All i have to say is........my poor car. :

In the great state of louisiana where I live someone must get the ticket if the police are called in. On top of that if your either: A)young, or B)driving a sportscar, your chances of getting a ticket in an incident like yours are very high and if you are A and B then your pretty much SOL, your getting the ticket.

well i know, here in california, a yellow light is considered a stop light, and always the person is at fault that went through the yellow light if involved in an accident. so he should be cited either way.

yea in Mass. if you go through a yellow light and a cop is around you'll get a ticket, cuz they consider a yellow light like a red light.

Move if you do not like it here....Try any state north of us and see how the women look . The state police only issue a ticket on a public roadway. My wife backed into a lady in a private parking lot and NO TICKET WAS ISSUED!!!!!

Wow, thats retarded. Why don't they just eliminate the yellow light. I live in the great city of laredo and because of that im forced to cough over money to insure my car of a uninsured driver because we have so many moronic mexicans coming over the border who don't drive and think stop signs are there to look pretty, people drive crazy down here and I can't stand these damn mexicans.

(On a side note, no im not racist, im puerto rican and my wife is mexican, I really just can't stand the idiots coming from across).

damn man sorry to hear what happened to your car, but now you know to look before you slam on the gas when a light turns green, i always do that and i saved myself from a few accidents , its like crossing the street when your allowed to, you always have to watch out for cars that are turning from the other side who have the green light

Trust me, I'm not here by choice, just waiting to finish school. Just so you know how great this state is, right now our mayor and police cheif are fighting like little kids over $4mil in extra budget and the cheif is threatening to close down the cities police force........ but he's going to do the job himself to the best of his abilities. This state's freaking rediculous, but atleast me and my brother are going to be able to go out on an empty street and race b/c if there's only one policeman in the whole city he can only catch one of us right? j/k If anyone else is from here please dont get upset, after all this is just my opinion.

I can't believe they totaled it! That sucks. Now the car will have a salvage title!
Did they at least let you keep it or did/do you have to buy it back from the insurance company?

shouldnt of settled man, those evil insurance companies always try to call a third gen a total even if its minor damage, the only way to do it is to get a lawyer and fight them tooth and nail they have a limited time to settle the claim and if u fight long enough they will just give in.

Here in Philly you can get a ticket for going through a yellow also. I was at traffic court paying an old ticket
(old ticket story- I was in my old car ,88 tbird, some honda was revin next to me so i starting spining the tire i didnt know at the time a cop was two cars behind me )
when a guy was telling a judge he shouldnt have to pay his ticket because the lite was yellow not red. The judge said "yellow means prepare to stop unless you are into the innersection when the lite turns yellow"
He said "pay it or ill suspend youe lic"

Anyway you have some serious control because i would have killed the jackass!

In NYC we have the same thing. Last I checked the insurance for the uninsured was pretty much the same as a policy for your self... you had a choice for covering the uninsured driver for $25,000, $50,000, etc, but you could not have none.

Also I heard recently they're looking to make it in NY that if you have an accident, no matter who is at fault, the insurance of both parties goes up. Haven't heard anything else about that.

In arkansas its legal to go through a yellow light. If it turns red while you are in the intersection its still ok. As long as it wasnt red before you got into the intersection you can go. The main problem with people getting hit at redlights right after they turn green is that people think that "its green I can go". If you dont look to make sure everyone is stopped and its safe for you to go then its as much your fault as theirs. All you had to do was take a split second and look both ways to make sure traffic had heeded the signal and stopped. If you do that every time you wont get hit at a red light unless some moron just comes speeding out of nowhere.

Just because your light is green doesnt mean you dont need to check for cross traffic. Red lights dont mean crap to a lot of people and if you care about your car and dont want to get in a wreck, then take the time and look. If you dont take the time to drive defensive and you just proceed through intersections taking it for granted that everyone else is going to do what they should then an accident is as much your fault as the person who ran the light/stopsign.

Im not getting on you because you got hit. I just get tired of people getting hit and then getting mad when if they had just payed a little attention they could have avoided the accident. Im 27 and I have 0 tickets and 0 accidents and I basically drive like a bat out of hell. I have been sneaking cars out since I was 12. If you dont want to get in an accident you dont have too.

Well I was in 1 accident but it was a drunk driver that t-boned me out of a parking lot. I saw him coming long before he hit me and there was nowhere for me to go. On my right there was minivan full of kids not wearing seatbelts and jumping all around. I was boxed in front and back. I moved over to the passenger seat and held on to the wheel in a 1980 Ford LTD. The bumper of the guys truck came through the door and would have gone right through my chest and killed me if I wasnt paying attention to everything around me. The moral of the story is that you should pay more attention to everyone else on the road than you do to whats going on in your car. Then you can see the A$$hole that is about to blow through a light and smack your shiny car and you can avoid him all together and cuss him and drive home with the car in 1 piece.

He's right. Where I come from if the light turns yellow and I can make it through to a certain point before it turns red without increasing my speed then I am ok...If you are turning, only one car is allowed out in the lane at a time. If the light turns yellow then red you can then proceed. The other drivers have to wait until you clear the lane before they can go. Its always good to know your laws. I hope things work out for you.

My understanding is that here in NY the green lights are supposed to be delayed 5 seconds, so that you have a red light in all directions for 5 seconds. Of course because of the "rush rush" attitude here its not practiced and the delay is only like 1 second.

I've seen this delay in other states and it should be done everywhere considering it takes 2-3 seconds to cross most intersections (unless the person is a slow driver, which there are a lot of in my area - drive 5 MPH but do not stop for red lights, stop signs or people in crosswalks), and there could probably be less of these type of accidents.
