My interior cleaning experience so far! (Warning dialup users....)

This just makes me laugh.

Like most thirdgeners, just about everything on my car could use some cleaning or repair. It started a few weeks ago when I decided to order a few parts I could replace, like front seat buckles and some interior panels, trim, weatherstripping and such. I did some research on carpet and upholstery cleaning and decided I'd take out my interior panels to simple green and power wash.

That was my intention at noon yesterday, and below is the result of a few hours later. I just couldn't stop! My thinking was, if I'm going this far, I might was well rip out the entire interior and clean and repair or replace every part so I won't have to again for a LONG time.

So far, the only cleaning I've done is on the carpet, which I simple green'ed and power washed. I'm very happy with the results! Can't wait to get to the interior panels tomorrow!

New things I have to put on:
Front turn lenses (sooooo much better looking)
New 6x9's
New front buckles
New dash (Thanks to JMatlock88!)
New kick panels

I'll probably have the headliner done while this is all apart......

I could use some new door panels too.

If ONLY there was a resource to get new sill plates.

What do you guys think?

That's actually the shop Dad and I built....we got so tired of working out of the garage. It's so much better now!

As for going to far, the interior is so easy to take apart, there was no point at which I thought "I'm in over my head!" That's why I didn't take the dash or any wiring out.....that definitely would have been to far for me. I should have taken some before pics of the interior...I'll be sure to take some after pics.

Thanks for the compliments!

Red interior, got my attention! Good way to detail it, get it out of there so you can work on it. What will you be doing with the seats? Mine need up holstered but can't find a kit with the right material. Looking for options for the red int.

I just recently started dismantling my gray interior to sell. It's not as hard as I thought. The hardest parts by far were getting the seatbelts off the floor without stripping the T-47 bolt they use. Those things are TIGHT. I still haven't removed the carpet, though. Once I do that, will the adhesive be ruined when I remove it?

Yeah no kidding, perfect time, and a great thing to do.

I need your shop. I hate doing all my work in the driveway.

I haven't touched the door panels yet, but here's an example of the contrast between them and the console carpet, which before looked the same. You can see the contrast!

Here's a pic of one of my seatbelts...I was AMAZED at how clean they came, like new. Any dark spots in the pic are simply shadows....they're spotless.

Whats the red/white/blue manual I see on your work bench?
It's a Helm (Helms?) manual....they're simply the best. It has anything you need to know, basically.

What will you be doing with the seats?
As for the seats, my front ones are replacments, racing style, that are fairly new. My rear ones are in good condition, just needed to clean the carpet on the back.

The hardest parts by far were getting the seatbelts off the floor without stripping the T-47 bolt they use
Well maybe you had such a hard time because you're really supposed to be using a T-50! I had a TON of trouble on the drivers side floor bolt, but my dad showed me a few tricky techniques to get it out!

Once I do that, will the adhesive be ruined when I remove it?
Probably, but I really don't know how much it matters. I pulled off the insulation and laid it down as I took the carpet off, so I wouldn't have to wait for it to dry. I don't think I'm going to try to reglue it to the floor OR the carpet, and just see what happens.

Somebody mentioned using newer stuff there....what do you guys use?

Also, here is my NEXT project ........

AND...meet my new best friend! :

Those electric power washers are the best things ever. Well, next to a Helms manual. Nice work!
