How do you "paint" your taillights?
I keep seeing some guys on here who mention painting their taillights and I was wondering exactly how and what do yall use? I was hoping to paint the amber part red.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I used the testers brand, translusent red paint. 2-3 coats (until the color matches.) of the red, then i clear coated it. just mask everything off well, so you only paint the amber part.

normally I'd agree with the tail-light cover thing but for some reason I don't like them on Camaros... JMHO

i agree with Daytona T/A the gts covers arent my favorite mod either, it takes out the camaro talilight look, especially if you have the grided tails, if you want to black out the tails, you can paint them with niteshade, ive seen that done and it looks great

That looks pretty sleek. I was thinking about molding an addition clear panel in place of the amber one so there would be 2 clear and 2 red... but that looks way easier

Black outs look good on Black cars. I always wanted to paint mine Black but never had a spare lens to try it on.

My custom tail lights
I tried to post a picture of it but for some reason it just won't let me.
I'm red all across the light. No yellow, no white. All red.
Maybe someone can let me know why I'm having difficulty posting pictures?
Yes, I checked sizes and file extensions, and all seems to be up to snuff, but it just doesn't work for me.

those look very good. I would have loved to do mine that way, but the required back-ups in the states keep me from that.

i've got a question for you....
how did you get down to 1900lbs, and how did you get 425hp with a LTR setup? Maybe that is for another thread.

vht niteshade "Create a custom look. 7 oz. spray can, Nite Shades coating VHT's Nite Shades Coating is a transparent black taillight lens coating for creating a custom look. When applied to taillights, fog lights, or turn indicators, VHT Nite Shades appears black until the lights are lit, then the natural red color appears. Recommended for off-road use, it comes in a 7 oz. spray can."
you can get it online at places such as http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...eshade&x=0&y=0
they kill you on the shipping though, cause they stick you for it bieng hazardous, i was thinking about doing it but id like to find it localy somewherem, something i havent had any luck with,
by the way the red lights all the way accross looks really good too, if it didnt cover the reverse lights id go for that,

if you painted from the inside of the light, the outside would still be amber
I dont think it looks good at all if you just paint over the amber part. You would need to repaint all the red and clear over the whole tail light. I think im just going to take mine apart and clean then real well and repaint the black.

I just used a small flathead screwdriver and slowly pryed the lights apart. They are held together by some kind of adhesive so heating them up a little should help loosen up the adhesive. Let me know if you have anymore questions

You might be able to get it right, you just have to play with the amount of layers you put on. As for taking the lights apart, its pretty easy just take you time so you dont crack them. Its real easy to break a piece

im in the process of doing this right now. ive got one done, waiting on the other from ebay. heres what i did. i took off the black part that houses the license plate light. then i cut off and popped out the two clips on the top of the housing and took off the two clips on the bottom. next, ( i work at a body shop, so this is easier for me) i baked the taillight to soften the adhesive. when it came out, still warm, i separated the lens from the housing with a pocket screwdriver, starting at the middle and working my way out SLOWLY. once you get to the top of the lens, dont try to pry on the black part across the top, youll break or crack it. just slowly pry on any part you can on the outside and it will eventually separate.
once i got mine apart, i cleaned the amber lens with rubbing alcohol. do not use anything that will leave any sort of lint or fuzzies. once its dry, tape off all 4 sides. most will not believe it, but i actually had to use 6 coats of Testors Transparent Candy Apple Red. i held it up to the light after each coat and kept seeing amber shining through until the 6th coat. it may be different for you, and might be for my other light. it ended turning out slightly thicker and foggier, but probably wont be noticable. i know there are a couple different posts to doing this, but this is how i did my first one and will do my second one. im perfectly happy with how it turned out. good luck to anyone who does this mod, either my way, someone elses way, or their own way

Alright well I am not planning on doing this to a camaro but my friend has an s10 that he wants to put the transparent black on. So we were thinking if you paint the inside of the lense with the transparent paint to make it black could you polish the outside to make it really shine and stand out ? Just wondering if anyone has tried this or though of it. . . . seems like it would work but thats why I'm asking ya'll before i go and paint the tailights.
