does this sound stupid???
just thinking about if this would work, and/or would it be stupid. would there be a way to remove the t-bar where the interior light is. like make it removeable with the t-tops, so it's fully open like vetts. maybe by using pins or something like that, and put the light on the back cross bar above the back seat? as for the headliner, have a plastic abs one so it looks good as well. what do you guys think? just a thought.
If you did that you would need some serious chassis stiffening. Without it your body would as stiff as a wet noodle.

Yes, you need some serious chassis strenghtening. But no more then a convertible has. Anyway, it's not a bad idea, but I would suggest doing it this way: Take the two t-top latches and remove the glass/plastic clear part from them and get a piece of smoked glass or plexi that would fit to the top of the car and would run all the way across, then get a body saw and cut out the t-bar. Then just get some sort of generic seals and seal it all up good.
I thought about doing it to my Firebird, then decided to go to a 'Vert.

What if you made the T-bar removeable and got some acrylic t-tops and attached them to the t-bar with hinges so they will fold up together. It will keep the original appearance when its on but it can be removed all in one piece. It's not something I would try but it would be pretty cool if you can accomplish it.

That is exactly what I want to do to my T/A, make a one piece removable top. Just need to really stiffen up the body so it doesn't break down the middle.

Yeah, I thought of doing this - especially when I had my hatch removed for painting. If you were to throw a notchback on there, then "targa-ize" it by removing that t-top center piece it would look completely ****.

I got an easy way to stiffen up your car - weld the doors shut!
Then you can hop in out like the Dukes of Hazzard. I've seen way to many factory convertibles sag to the point where the doors won't open correctly. I wish it were a lot easier because I would love to open up the roof on my hardtop, but I refuse to comprimise the integrity of the car. My buddy and I made a convertible station wagon before. Needless to say, it didn't last to long after that!

how would you go about making the body stiffer? just some types of rods or something under it? how stiff you you have to make it exactly? i would really like to do this and am considering it.

Sub Frame connectors is one way to stiffen up your car, or you can weld in a roll cage but that would look dumb if you are not racing your car!

Hey I am likin this Idea. I actually thought of it long time ago, but never did anything about it. But all this talk of "stiffing" it up scares me. Whut the heck would I have to do to accomplish that?
