When shops mess up your ride

this happened today to me. i went out to my shop to put one of my old rims back on my car since i had a slow leak on my rear passenger tire. well the tires are still under warranty but the tire shop was closed today, so i was going to get it fixed tomorrow hence me putting my old rim and tire back on. well, after driving about two blocks away from my shop my car starts to wobble a little bit and then the DRIVER's side rear tire completly comes off and bounces away from my car and my rotor is dragging on the street. i immediatly pull over and then go chasing after my rim hoping that it doesn't hit another car. it finally hits a wall and the tire pops from the impact and the rim is bent pretty bad. so i go back to my car and a guy is there asking if i need help, so i have him take me back to my shop to get another old rim to put on it. but now one of my TT 2's is bent, i need a new tire, and my rear axle might be bent, all on acount of the tire shop being too lazy to tighten the lugs ALL the way, as i hadn't even messed with that tire. so tomorrow i get to go get the flat fixed and demand they pay for the new rim and tire. and axle if need be. this pisses me off so bad as i start school tomorrow too.

lets hear some other stories on how shops have half-assed or messed up things on your car.

when i got my Craggars 2 of the rims were bent from the manufacturer & when i had the tires put on,the guys told me what the problem was & i took the 2 bent rims back to them & they were blaming me for bending them how the he(( can i bend them?!!?! anyway i told them what was what & the ordered 2 new rims.

ive had some issues with having the car painted right & i just tell the guy at the body shop if something isnt right & he takes care of it.

Well I'm 17 and work at a GM Truck dealership... I drove my car to work and had it looked at because of the timing on the new motor..I didnt have a working timing light... Anyways i got told i needed the valves adjusted so i was like ok ill do it when i get home but they messed with it and it barley ran.. So they adjusted them and put the valve covers back on with the old gaskets. As i drove home it leaked out 3.5 qts of oil in 10 min and oil pressure went to nothin as i got home.. Went to put oil in and wathced it come out as i poured it out!! What a joke Ill never let anyone touch my car again. Then i confronted the guy and he said that they didnt have any gaskets... Im like BS.. 5 minutes later i found a pair to show him there was some

I had my car taken into the Local Canadian Tire shop. I know the horror stories about the place, but I had a good friend who works in the shop and knew he was quite **** about his inspections, and his work so I took the car to him. An hour later he comes and tells me I need two lower ball joints. Left and Right. I tell him to put them on. Then later another 2 hours and he comes to me again with a regection sticker. I asked him what failed on the car. He tells me that there are holes in the back wheel wells. I got him to show me holes. (Holes were Just big enough for the smaller Mechanics Crow bars) The aSSWhipe was jabbing holes in my wheel well. I got a lil upset and told him to just put the Rims back on the car. and that I'll get the holes repaird at a body shop. I 20 min later am driving down the road and something just dont feel right. I get out and look at wheels, and the bum nugget didn't even bother ligning the wheel holes up with the Spacers of the nuts. 3 nuts were in somewhat the right location but the other 2 nuts were not and the spacers had been tightened up against the Rim itself. I took car back to canadian Tire and Drove it right into the shop myself and grabbed the guy by the arm and nearly yanked him off of his feet and dragged him over to the wheel. He took one look at the damage it did to my wheel and said. "I didn't do it"

I was severely pi$$ed. I took the car straight to another garage, and asked them to do an inspection of the car. And they failed it because of holes in the wheel wells and the rims themselves failed. So now my only car and daily driver is sitting in my yard trying to save up some money to buy some new rims. I fixed the wheels wells myself. Its amazing what a jack and some fiberglass can do

Needless to say I'm looking for another shop to frequent. Untill I can afford to attend Body shop school and mechanics school. A lot of stuff I can do myself. but need the actual school certificate to get decent paying jobs around here now.

Thats my body shop woes.

ya, i went today to that shop and told them about it, that i wanted them to pay for all the damage to the rim and tire, and they said that they couldn't know if i had touched the wheel since they put it on two weeks ago. so basically now i have to ride around with my red rims in the back that don't match my now orange car until i can get the extra money for a new rim and tire.

Yup, aluminum wheels will back off usually a couple of times, make sure to tighten them at least 2-3 times every 50 miles or so, esp. new ones. The shop should have told you this.

I had a shop charge me over 700$ dollars to change out my smog pump. Now here's the catch. Those bastards punctured a hole in my radiator and called me on the phone to tell me I had a severe leak and that it was spraying all over the place. Now I am thinking to myself this is bull@#$# because I just dropped it off and everythig was fine. So went to the shop and did some investigating. There is no way you could get a hole that big due to driving conditions. I new they punctured my radiator but I couldn't prove it so I had have a new one installed along with my smog pump. A couple of months later I notice that my fuel pump is going out so I take it back to that same shop. I didn't have time to do it myself so I had them do it. A week or so later I end up stranded on the freeway cause my car dies. When I take it to another shop I tell him that I had the fuel pump replaced a weak ago. He then takes me under the car to show me that none of the bolts have been removed to drop the tank and that everything looks like it has never been removed. So now I am pissed. I have them tow my car back to the first shop demand my money back or I was going file a lawsuit. After some arguing and a few phone calls they see it my way and install a new pump plus pay for tow truck and remeburse me for all services rendered.

This is so sad. As part owner of an auto repair shop, and a technician in that shop myself, I must defend my profession. These are sad stories, but please don't assume all shops are like this. A few bad shops make our whole profession look bad. Now I'm certainly not saying I never screw up (we are human, we all make mistakes), but some of these stories result from plain ignorance and dishonesty. Most auto techs have a hard enough job to do, and people who complain about the bad apples make it hard on all of us trying to run a competent and upright business.

On my old Enkei rims, I had a shop that decided to not fully install my center caps. I lost 2. I was lucky that I returned that very day and showed them one of the 2 remaining was not fully seated and was coming off. They agreed to replace them. The problem was the center caps were metal and the metal versions were discoed. The new plastic ones had a bit different finish. this wouls mean I would have a mismatched set. SO they agreed to buy me a whole new set of 4.

Had another shop that I told and got in writing to not put wheel weights on the outside of the rim did. I tried to get them to fix the teeth marks left behind. They agreed to fix since it was in writing on the work order, but problem was finding a place that would fix them. I had no luck. Then I was left with replacing them & the wheels were discoed.

Worst case...I was at a dealership getting the oil changed in the dually. It was Fri. They rushed me in and out and I was on my way. Dually seemed fine no lights just noisey. Gauge read normal. Got it home, about 2 miles away. Got up the next morning for a horse show. Turned on the truck. There was no oil pressure. I checked the oil. Bone dry. Looked under the truck. Nothing on the ground. Nothing slung on the body like it had drained while driving either. So we had to go adn the dealership was not open. I go to fill it up with oil. The oil cap is not on the valve cover, its siting on the air filter lid. Now there was no indication that the oil had come out the valve cover either. I filled it up we made it there and back. Figured it was ok. Apparently no one filled the oil. I could not explain the gauge till the next time the truck was driven a few months later and the motor locked up. Dealership would do nothing said I would have had to tow the truck to them that Sat with no oil to prove it. So we had to eat a new Jasper motor.
