What is the cheapest tire size for a GTA that won't be dangerous to drive?!
Hello, I will be buying a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA that originally had 245-50-ZR16 tires all around. But I will need to change them pretty soon. I don't have very much cash, so what is the best size for the price? I wan't a size that won't be dangerous in hard cornering or stuff like that. I all need a set that my speedo will be as much accurate as possible.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Go to Tirerack.com and look at the Kumho ECSTA 711 . They are only $57 each. Take em to walmart and they will mount and ballance em for $7 each. That is about the cheapest way to go.

The problem is that I live in Canada, it will cost and arm and a leg to ship them to me.

You will like them. You can't beat the price with a stick, and they are good tires. I had a set of 711's on my IROC and now they are on my T/A. (Until the 17" WS6 wheels go on!

Here's another vote for the 711's. I put them on my car a couple months ago...was skeptical about it but I really needed some new rubber. Turns out, I really like these tires!!! They grip very well. I was able to buy mine locally so I didn't have to pay for shipping which made a good deal even better. I think I paid about $258 for all four plus sales tax.

I just gave a few local tires shop a call... The less expensive one for Kumho 711 is 476.70$ (US dollar)!!! This price include taxes and installation. This is expensive...

I think our American 3rd gen friends are able to get much better deals on rubber than we can here in the great white north... unfortunately I've never heard of anyone around here dropping much less $$$ than that for new tires on a GTA/IROC

I had a set of them and they are awesome for the price.
The things I didn't like about them were that they didn't hook all that great and they make a lot of noise when they spin, ie. roasting.
If you are in a bind, get some decent used tires. Around here we have these small used tire places that sell tires mounted for $20 each. Not sure if they have those kinds of places up there though.

for the price they are ok. They wear kinda fast for a H-speed rated tire. Fast shoulder wear. The price is hard to beat though. I rather save some cash and buy some Avid H4s or Avid V4s. You car was origanly a V-speed rated tire car, why change it. Save some cash and buy the Avid V4s's or something a little bit more.
If you need tires now go with the 711's, like I said the price is very good.
