Clean Up engine compartment
I have an 86 camaro and it was a 305 Vin code H motor. Now its a zz4 350 w/carb. Anyways I want to clean up the engine compartment, it was painted but not shaved or anything. The wiring harness is still in there and I want to get rid of it. I have no sensors except a knock sensor, and I have no AC. (none of ac stuff is in compartment) I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram of what wires I could remove and what I could not. Or if anyone has tried this and knows the best way to get rid of all of these wires. I just dont want to start cutting and have something **** up. I was thinking of just taking the computer out of the car and pulling all wires attached to it? Any imput is appreciated.:hail:

i just did somthing similar.
i had a TBI harness, and im putting a LS1 in... so i no longer need most of the TBI related wires. only the ones that would goto the ECM, gauge sensors, main power, ect were needed.
basicly you need the GM service manual wiring, i got mine here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=268639
what i did is made a 2 tables for each main connector.... wires i keep, and wires i remove.
in this table i list the location on the connector, and its color.
i pulled all the remove wires to the side with a red zip tie, and all the keep wires to the side with a green zip tie.
then i removed the red zip tied wires from the harness and im left with a bare bones harness.
you then unhook the harness at the connectors..
and you start removing wires that arnt needed.

I done mine. I cut out about 90% of all the wiring under the hood (left stock headlight wiring)
Then just ran my own wiring for what I needed
I'm running aftermarket gauges so I would have had to add wires for those any way.
With a carbed, non computer controlled engine all you need is...
the dist 12 volt wire
feild wire for alt.
ing. wires on starter
water temp sender wire (if you use an elec gauge)
oil psi sender wire (if you use an elec gauge)
tach wire to dist.
3 (i think) wires to the wiper motor
2 (i think) wires to the washer pump
batt. cable ground to engine block
batt cable hot to stater
charge wire from at to starter or batt
2-4 wires for the heater blower fan
To make a long story short. I cut out 9 lbs of stock wires from under the hood, and ditched the 2 lbs ECU from under the dash.. 11 lbs weight gone and much cleaner engine bay

Yeah, I guess that's what it is called. I kept my heater, but ditched the AC, and to have air blowing out the vents inside the car you have to have the blower motor/fan working on the pass. side of the fire wall
1 ground wire off the motor it's self, then that funny shaped pluf that has the coiled pc. of wire on the bottom of it. That plug has 2 wires on it I think

Im kind of wondering the same thing. I have the motor out and most of the interior, i was wondering if i can remove most of the wires under the dash, its a mess of wires. But i have a non computer carbed v8, going to run aftermarket gauges also. But im hesitant to just start cutting wires

There are basically 2 large harnesses going into the engine bay.
The one on the passenger side is for the ecm and has nothing to do with the engine running. You can get rid of all of that crap.
the drivers side has all the essentials. All the wiring for the gauges, starter, distributor, wipers, brake light etc.

I did all of this a while ago, just start cutting and you can easily identify the wires. pull the computer out and cut all of those ****ers off, then the rest is easy...
