Using a Wire Wheel on Aluminum Wheels

I have a set of 92 RS wheels, and I was using a 6'' grinder with a wire wheel to round the edges.

Is this a good idea? it can eat the aluminum away quickly, but do you think it will be alright and look normal if I round them all the same?

has anyone done this before?

thanks for the help!

the way its been working for me, it will only take soo much off the edges, but yea, you have to be really careful.

I was just hoping someone else has done this before.

thanks,
Kyle

I also used a wire wheel to clean up 15" bird wheels. Just shop around because there are "coarse" one and "fine" ones... If you follow up with the fine wheel then hit it with progessively finer sandpaper, you will be amazed at the results.

if you use a finer bristed one, it won't be that bad, when I first started mine, I had a really aggressive wheel, and it scratched the hell out of mine, but I got it smoothed out with some sanding paper and a lighter wheel.

Its great for taking the clear coat off!

But like megaracerx said, don't take too much off.

It is a double edged sword, the more you use the wheel, the more you will sand. If you need to remove clear coat, use wheel sparingly...

Remember to only use brass wire wheels on aluminum. They wont cause discoloration.
