Undecided 305 or 350?
Undecided 305 or 350?
Buying my own F-Body in the spring...
I love driving my fathers '89 but I dislike the automatic tranny. So I'm leaning more towards the 305 5spd car anywhere from 88-92. I can settle with a little less power and get more enjoyment with the 5spd.
With the same SLP mods could I build a mid 14sec car?. That would make me happy enough.
BTW My father owns a 1989 L98 IROC-Z with various mods, SLP Header, Exhaust, Runners etc. Hella fast!...
Thanks for any info.

The 5 speed 305 combo is a brutal combo, especially with a couple mods. I say go for it!

Dude, don't be ridiclous. 350's are superior to 305's. Find a 350.
Look at numbers.
Stock L98 (350): 245hp 345lbs of torque
Stock LB9 (305): 203hp 285lbs of torque
or 230hp 300lbs of torque
There were 2 different 305 engines, the only difference was I belive the was a higher cam in the 230hp LB9. Thats what made it faster then the stock LB9. But still the 350 starts out 15hp above the 305 and u have PLENTY of mods that could get you into higher hp numbers. Just my 2 cents. Go with a 350. You won't be dissapointed.

I wholeheartedly disagree with 91 Bird. The later 305 5 speeds had 230 horsepower, only 15 less than the 350, but because of the 5 speed they were just as fast, or at least within a tenth or 2 in the quarter. For the sake of a tenth, I'd much rather drive the manual. A 90 5 speed IROC will stomp an 87 L98.

Get a 350 if u want a lot of power with less costs, or the 305 5 speed if u really want a stick shift.
