Intake/accy. colors..

I pretty much have everything off the top and front of my motor at the moment cleaning and getting ready to paint (maybe a cam swap as well..).

The complete intake and serpentine mount brackets are going to be done (possible alt., etc. as well)

I'd like some color instead of just b&w only but, I can't really decide on how I want the scheme to go so.. any ideas, opinioins or pics for color combos would be appreciated.
Polished, aside from the valve covers, isn't happening, either.

Prior to tearing it apart, I had justblasted and cleared the intake and my crap looked as such (only descent pic I could find)....

Deadbird,

Are those the stock steel covers that you polished or aluminium one from the vette? They look very nice...

Here's what I did.

Painted the WP and VCs red.
Painted the TPI and accessorie brackets gunmetal/cast iron.
Painted the Intake manifold and the actual pulley assemblies silver. The looms are silver, and my new 3pt BMR brace is powdercoated silver.

Obviously it's not the color combor you would use, but it really breaks it all up, yet keeps a theme.

Wow! That is one clean setup/bay Abub. I'm not a big fan of plain red but, that is very well done.

It may be my monitor or maybe the pic, too but, is that an red-orangish on your intake 88 ?

Thanks Dan.. the valve covers are aftermarket polished aluminium with the lines ball milled in them. I bought them from JEGs just before they stopped selling them a good while back. I do believe www.JCWhitney.com now carries the same brand/style.

I think the hardest part of doing this is my bay is so just... blah bland that, any color (or at least any I can think of) added stands out like a sore thumb.
The black and white just seems to make the bay look cluttered/busy even though the bay is clutter free as it could be while retaining all the accys.

The blue hoses are being donated to my camaro and will be black again. The coil will be painted white or black and moved to a less obvoius spot. The 6AL will be painted too. The resevoirs will probably be s---canned as well.

I'm starting to hate owning white almost as much as I did black.
It's giving me a headache trying to think of a combo that would look good w/o standing out saying 'look at me'...

Any input is appreciated... thanks guys.

blue, about the same color as your oil cap if you can swing it, but when you do it, make sure you polish the fins on the top of the intake. i think that would look pretty killer.

Yes they will fit any centerbolt cover, but keep in mind if you get the "tall" version of the covers, the supplied bolts will be short, and you may have to track down some hardware at a local store.

...They are Russells wire looms, and they come in silver, or anodized red or blue. It was a huge pain getting the wires and little black clips onto the silver loom part, but I think they're worth it.

FYI, Deadbirds VCs can regularly be found on Ebay, in both short (oe) and tall versions, as well as the ball milled flames, and smooth.

I painted my intake with red Duplicolor metalkast paint. In person, it looks like its anodized red. The orangeish part is just the lighting in the picture. It looks really rad in person.

I was on the shelf about weather that was paint or PC. I've used the Duplicolor blue annodize paint before and it's considerably tough (abrasion resistant) and looks good granted.. you can get a consistant spray from the can. I found having it (can temp) near explosion will get a near pro (very little orange peel) finish.

mw66.. I do tend to favor blue/dark colors over reds but, is this sort of (remotely) what you're talinking about ?... which is the 'look at me' thing I was saying (quick hack)...

yeah, kinda, but maybe keep the runners silver. and then make sure to polish the fins on the plenum. and other stuff to get more aluminum showing through. honestly, i think it looks just fine sand blasted and cleared.

I know you said color, but you could always do a white or black, but keep a splash of red or blue around here and there.

Hahaha, yup, thats paint. Looks pretty dang good IMO. I took it to the 3rd gn party at LFN At U's and I got a really good reaction from everyone there. I used the base coat first and then the red on top. One tip, if you use the silver base coat, use a lot of it. The more silver you get down first, the better it looks in the end. If you have polished parts you're painting, dont worry about the base coat. I tried to polish my plenum at first but it was taking too damn long and I didnt want to mess with the tubes so I just sandblasted it all first and then painted. Now I have some of the blue Im going to use on the valve cover for my Cavalier when I get bored some day. Ill post some pics of that when its all done.

Well crap.. that looks really good too. But, it's that whole contrast thing again. A bay with (any) color aside from white still has a more... organized appearance to it. I don't like the fact that anything not body color just jumps out.
Maybe if all the black parts were painted a grey shade it wouldn't be so bad... ?

I hate being so **** over underhood crap since it's rare it's seen but, it still bugs me on a personal level. I think this is going to push me over the edge to just re-re-repaint the whole f'n car again... I'm starting to hate this car lol
