I hate Paco county, FL.(appearance related)long rant inside......
I have had my camaro for about 5 years now. When I bought it the engine was a V6 and tired, the paint is faded and so on and so forth. I brought the car back to my house to give it some TLC. I do not have a garage so everything I did was done in my driveway. I ripped the whole drivetrain out the refurbish it because at the time I was only making $8/hr as a lube tech. I get the whole drivetrain out of the car as well as the whole front suspension. I am sitting in my living room and get a knock on the door. It is a Pasco county code violations officer. They asked me who owns the red camaro. I say I own it. The lady then proceeds to tell me that there have been a few complaints about a little girl who lives across the street from me. The girl is 3 years old and the mother doesn't really watch her so she just wanders around the neighborhood. She then tells me that since my car is on jackstands with no wheels on it, that the girl could come up into our driveway, crawl underneath the car and kick something and have the car fall on her. She then tells me that I have 7 days to put the car back down on the ground and push it behind this *imaginary* line that is behind the front edge of my privacy bushes. I ask her why I am being punished for bad parenting. As soon as that girl comes onto my driveway she is trespassing, and that the mother should be held accountable for her actions. Needless to say, I comply and scramble to get the car back down on all 4 wheels. About 2 months later, I come home from work, and there is a letter stapled to my door that the car has to removed from the property. I call the county and ask them about it, and told them that I complied with the first code enforcment officer's wishes. They told me that the vehicle in inoperable, and must be removed. So I say to the girl on the phone, how do you know that it is an inoperable vehicle? She tells me, well sir, there is no engine or transmission in the car. Whoa, whoa whoa, I said to her. How do you know that my car has no engine or transmission unless someone some onto MY property, OPENED my car door, POPPED the hood, and looked into the car? She said, Sir, I cannot divulge that type of information. So, I had to put the car in storage until I got the engine built. It was in storage for 4 years and $133/mo. so do the math. They cost me about 6 grand. Well, now that the motor is built, I decided to bring the car back home. I did about a month and a half ago. I dropped the engine and trans in the car as well as a hood. You can't tell that the car doesn't run EXCEPT for the fact that it does not have a license plate. Well, I get a call from my girlfriend that the county stopped by and gave me another code enforcement violation, and that the car has to be off the property again within 7 days or else I will have to pay a $100 fine plus cour costs. Let me STRESS this fact, this car will not leave my property again. Also, I had to order my radiator system, and am trying to get some other things worked out so that the engine car be started by this Friday. I don't have a full exhaust yet so when I go to start it and break it in, it will be open header(Hooker Super Competition Long Tubes
) All I have to say is that if the guy from the county gives me a citation for a noise ordinance, I will punch him right in his face. That'snot a joke either, I really will, because they are the ones who are forcing me to start the engine like this. End rant............. Anyway, the whole purpose of this post was to see if anyone has ever been singled out/isolated, or given trouble because of the way their car looked. I think that because my car doesn't have glossy shiny paint, I am a target. Anyone else feel like this???

Yeah man, I know how ya feel. I live in hernando and got the same crap at two different houses. My buddy actually had to send a perfectly good 85 z28 shell to the junk yard because of those fockers. Then, the week i decide to pull the motor on my T/A (Mind you its got primer spots all over it, so it doesn't look to hot), I get a note on my door: (Please remove boat (white) and old car (red) from your driveway as you are violating code blah blah blah.... you could almost hear the snotty tone....and as if I dont know what color my F@cking car is!!!!! I know they're just trying to improve the community, but it makes it hard as hell to work on a car anymore.

I have a parts car (GTA) that is up on jack stands in my driveway. I'm trying to not draw to much attention to it so I bought a car cover to put over it. My neighbor behind who works on mustangs has had a few problems with nieghers so hopefully I won't get any complaints. **crosses fingers**

We have some senior citizens that live across the street from me who called the city on us because the grass way in the back of the yard is too tall and is an "eye sore" Does he cut it??? Nope, he puts up a stockade fence so nobody can see it anymore.

Neighbors are car guys biggest enemies, luckily i dont get picked on because of the look of my car, looks have actually gotten me out of tickets however my exhaust the neighbors don't like, when it was still my daily driver before it under went the "surgery" i was driving it to and from school so i'd start it at 7am and had many neighbors complaining, over the summer i had it kind aa mess with a new front end, hood, masked quickie painted spots where stuff got shaved but no probs, i started working nights, so i'd work early mornign at one job leave the house at 5am then maybe if i was luck go home shower and go work my night shift at the rink, problem being i was getting home at 3am+ every night i had tons of mornings i'd come home and there would be a cop waiting for me saying the neighbors were complaining it was waking them up, i'm like i come in as uiet as i can it isnt like i'm doing 6k down the street, so now that it is put away and only comes out innice weather and shows i figure no problems right, wrong anytime i bring it home i either have the aurora pd oout or the neighbors complaining, its liek hey i lived hear before you you knew i ahd it when you moved in so bite me.
I've only run into problems like this with home associations. I guess our local laws are pretty lax about storing cars on the properly (just have to turn in the plates). But home associations are a different story. When I was doing the TH350 swap in my IROC-Z, I got a letter from the home association threatening to forclose my house if I didnt get the car off jackstands. It was retarded too, because the car was finished by the time I got the stupid letter. I win though because I got a garage door installed and now nobody can complain about anything anymore because its not viewable from the street. The day after the door went up, my 91 Z went on jackstands to do some work (change oil and re-adjust suspension). And in about a week here I'm gonna be starting a T56 swap on that car.
What it comes down to is this: Nothing like this happens unless someone complains. That means there is a rat on your street somewhere, someone complaining about your car. I particularly dislike this kind of stuff because they could just talk to you one on one and let you know they have a problem. But instead they get the law involved. I give rats no mercy. I found out who was complaining about me (next door neighbor), and I got my revenge. I'm evil I tell you, I got them to move away. First I started the "Drill and Saw Olympics" basically you randomly drill holes or cut into misc piece of metal at all hours of the day causing the most noise possible. Another good one is playing really lame music on repeat when you goto work. You can only hear so much Britney Spears "Hit me baby one more time" before you go crazy.
As for your situation, I would contact the local enforcement agency and find out how to legally store the car on the property. I'm sure there are just some silly rules they want you to follow to store it on the property. Its is pretty much impossible for them to prohibit you from enjoying your hobby of hot rodding. Just gotta play by their stupid rules. A long time ago I had to buy a car cover and move the car 5 feet forward every day (5 feet back the next) in order to keep my car parked on a certain street. Its retarded, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

that really sucks guys , i feel sorry for you guys who have to go through crap like that , i live in the country so i got no problems , and their are 3 other car guys on the road so its great , right now we have my mecham trans am outside, a 95 parts aurora with a good front end and a blown tranny and a 95 aurora with a wrecked front end , so 3 cars with no plates. So it would suck to live around people who complained.
I had a problem like that when I lived out in Los Angeles, California.
I have always parked my cars in front of my house, in the street.
Since I owned (and still do) the cars in my sig, I always took the car in the driveway to work or whatever.
Now, right next door, is a church.
Seems every Sunday, around 5pm, a Police officer would show up, to red tag the two cars in the street.
Seems that someone always called them (the Police), telling them I never move the cars!
Now, we had street sweeping every week! The cars had to move, or get a ticket! I don't believe in giving my money away, espically to any government agency. So, I always moved the cars. You would too, right?
Anyway, the people at the church told the Police that I had a friend at City Hall who would look the other way, and not ticket me! Ya, right! I wish! It can be a pain moving cars around all the time! Espically if you're running late for something!
So, I made friends with a lady Officer, and had her drive by every street sweeping day to check that I moved the cars. Then, when the Officer would show up on Sunday, I would have him contact that lady Officer, and let them take care of it.
I wasn't bothered anymore (but, by then, I was in the middle of my move!)!
Still though, it's a pain in the ****, I know!
With all my cars (I have trucks too), I get told I'm running a junk yard, even out here! Yes, I sell parts, and have quite a bit of stuff, but it's my property, and I keep it all clean, and orgianized.
Some of my neighbors have weeds that are almost 6 feet tall out here. I don't complain.
Ha! The funny thing is, one neighbor told me that my girlfriend can't sit outside in a bikini, while the other neighbor wants her to run around in one all the time! Yep, the old guys says no, and the younger guys says yes! Thankfully, we can carry guns straped on our hips here! I just haven't had the need yet.
Good luck,
George

Who gives a **** if the girl comes in your yard and gets hurt. Thats what her damn mother is for. What you should do is watch her and her mother very carefully and any neglect you see report them to Social Services, They will send a Social worker out to her house and have a big investigation and everything.

Well, fortunately for me, the mother and daughter were living there as a section 7 housing deal. Section 7 here is for people who are poverty level and can't make enough money to pay for a house so they only make them pay a percentage of what they make towards the house. I think that it is 30%. So the mom makes minimum wage at 35 hours a week, so her house payment is like $265/mo. Anyway, she worked at a bar, and somehow managed to get caught buying beer and lottery tickets with food stamps so they kicked her out.

The last thing I want on my street is somebodys rusty pipe dream bringing down the perceived property value.
This thread reminds me of a certain 442 owner in my neighborhood. He needs to give it up and recycle it.
I love when people claim restoration for years when all have is a dissasembled mess that doesn't even roll and probably never will. Then again hopefully there will be an LO3 hanging from a tree in my front yard soon.

Wow, my neighbors were all encouraging me to work on my car, not because it was ugly, but because it kept me off the streets doing dumb shat like most other teens.
Of course, I have a garage, and most in my neighborhood all likes cars. We have a couple fast cars on the block, and mine isnt the loudest.
I had only one complaint, some dumb biotch yelled at me to slow down when i was doing an honest 10 mph (i live in a cul de sac, so why go fast?). I jammed the brakes, and told her I was doing 10, and the speed limit was 25mph. I also told her that her kid was growing marijuana at work. lol

we had the real estate agent selling the house next door bitch to the law about to many cars cop showed up said all the cars driveable? Yep occasionally i even drive the fiero to work, And on top of that all the cars are in great shape we dont own beaters its not like its an eyesore to the neighbors since there is a ton worse on the street, we have a lot of hispanic folk down the street with 4-5 astro vans next door a honda 2 beaters in the back yard and a coupl old child molester vans, most of which dont run and are leaking severely, no trouble for them. Its your house you should be able to do whatever you want. If you want to tell people what they can and cant have in their yards China is just a few thousand miles across an ocean, Have fun

Dude, I don't want to sound like I don't ever work on my car but, your car was in storage for FOUR YEARS. That means your POS would have been on jack stands the whole time. C'mon, I've just sold my place and if a person drove down my street and seen your car on stands do you think they would want to live by that. You might think differently when your house and where you live are worth ALOT more money than a 20 year old car. I'm not saying you don't have the right to work on your car in your yard. Just don't make it look like a peice of crap for long. Take it apart when you know you have the time and money to do the project in less than a month or two.

1quickIROC:Well, I can see your point to an extent. When all of this transpired, I had the V6 ripped out, and the 350 block was at the machine shop. I had the Edelbrock heads on my girlfriends' credit card, and I was paying her back for them. When the car had to go into storage, that was $130/mo that I could not spend on the car. The car also didn't look like a piece of crap as you might think. It was sitting on all 4 tires(except for the one time that I had the drivetrain out), and everything was intact. There just wasn't a plate on the car.
MoroteZ28: There aren't nearly as many police here in Pasco and there are in Pinellas, but they are crafty, and have good spots to hide. Once you know where they sit, you can pretty much do whatever. Yes there are a good amount of imports here, but not a lot of street racing. They are really big into stereos and heavy bass.
