Engine Progress Pics

Here are a few pics of the TPI setup so far, The car is Black with the Gold package, this is the same color I'm using on the rims (they are pretty faded). I think I might do the valve covers in gold also..maybe the aluminum, not sure yet, I also did the fuel rails in gold with the black stripes to match the plenum, I'll have pics of that later...let me know what you guys think.....

It's Duplicolor Heat Engine paint (yep, rattle-can) about 6 coats on the aluminum and 6 color + clear on the gold, I used this on my last IROC and 3 years later it still looked great...thanx for the comments.

That looks very nice. My dad just got a GoldTouch gold plating machine. I wonder what a gold plated TPI would look like.

I've always been a fan of only using 1 color on the TPI, but that looks really good.

...and of course I'm partial to ANY Iroc with gold accents!!

Gold VCs might be a little much. Have you considered black VCs? I'll post a pic of my wire looms, which would look great if you painted them gold and put 'em on black VCs!

They're Russell looms. I think Jeg's sells 'em for about $50 bucks. Alum, red anodized or blue anodized.

....but here's my take on my gold idea:

Keep in mind that the gold in the plenum would match the gold looms. They're not quite exact in my pic, but of course it's just a photo chop.

thats a pretty good idea, but my covers are side bolts not center bolts...although the black does look nice, i thought the gold would be too much also I was gonna go with the aluminum, but now im thinking the black....just wont know untill i start putting it back together..i still have to get the manifold off and clean and paint that first..

by the way thanx for all the replies and input

82FireBird,

To answer your question on a gold plated TPI here it is...I looked at this and thought against the gold all together, but i did a search and found some really nice set ups with just the accent colors and decided to do my gold paint match, with the decals, stripes, rims and motor alll the same color this is gonna look great on a black IROC....IMO that is.......

Abubaca: Great photoshop skillz by the way!

theshmo891,

For the letters I just used a fine brush and gloss black, as for the plenum stripes after I painted it gold I masked it all off and used pinstripe to mask the lines I wanted to stay gold, then sprayed it with the black heat paint, then cleared all of it............even the clear is heat paint.

wow i like that alot. The more amounts of silver to that shade of gold make it look like a jewlry piece in way. What I dont like is the gold plating which to me looks more like brass, ughh.

well, I ended up painting the valve covers in gold and re-done the fuel rails, they were gold but I striped them back down to the aluminum and blacked out the fins instead....they look much better and the covers look really nice in the gold because the filler cap and the pvc ports and the screw downs are all in black....

sorry but no pics today, I will bring them into work on monday and post the pics then......(digital camera at work)

I am also painting the intake manifold, the heads and water pump in black...thermostat housing is now gold......

wont be able to see the whole thing done until I send out and get back the injectors

I'll be doing the rims over the weekend, Ill bring one in and post a pic of those also, plus I got my 145 speedo in thursday, I painted the metal cover that goes over the gauges in gold, a subtle touch but looks great.! pics soon..........
