Put about 20 miles on the car today! And snapped a few pictures

I actually took the car out for a cruise today and snapped some pictures. I'll be submitting some pictures to Camaro Source for their new calendar in 2006. I made it in last years (December) and hopefully I can make it again next year. There are only a few other things I really want to buy for the car..which is a new 90-92 steering wheel which I'm having trouble to find and a set of fiberglass hood struts. Other then that...I'm good.

The wheel is available new from GM I just bought one for mine. And It's not cheap by any means. I do have a good core steering wheel for sale if are interested in getting one recovered.

yeah i bought mine new in 02 and it was $319 from gm without air bag. i tried buying up everyone i could find looking for a nice conditioned alternate just in case but everyone i bought was never near good condition like the sellers claim. well worth the investment though as it fits the car.

I agree with your decision to leave it be for now, it looks real clean and tasteful, I also think that the drop you gave it completed the look

I like the your grille in the hood. It looks 10x better than the one that comes with that hood. Did you make that or did you buy it? If you bought it, where did you get it at? And by the way, your car looks great!

I made the grill out of brushed billet aluminum. The grill was made for a 98+ Mustang I believe...so..I cut it to cit the SS hood.

Sorry but...you'd probably think differently if you had a 3rd gen in the past you had a ton of money in that got totaled and wasn't your fault.

Thanks for all the comments guys...now I need to decide atleast 3 pictures to send into Camaro Source

Just my opinion but i like pic 2,3 and 5. They look good. How did you mount that grille, was there any mods needed other than cutting the grille?

As far as I know...no company makes an aftermarket grill for the SS hood...it would be nice if someone did though. I bought the hood from hawks....but it depends if you got the TPI versio or the carb version....I think something is different about the scoop or something.

The grill was pretty easy to make...but it just depends how good you can work with metal. I had to cut, shave, grind...all kinds of modifications to make it fit.

The third pic down is my favorite! There was another thread at one time about thoe most aggressive angle for a pic with these cars and IMHO I think that is the one - front corner, slightly elevated, slight wide angle lens/view, wheels turned just a bit - just awesome!!

Been pulled over 3 times for having red turn signals up front. Each time I was on the way back from a show and out of state. The car is always packed full! I have said I can change then back to yellow right now officer, I just forgot in our rush to leave the show and get on the road home. They say no and give me a warning each time. Got teh bulbs handy in the emergency tool kit! Been Very Lucky! The amazing thing is that none have said a word about the headlights! Or the front side markers being red! I about think you can get away with the side markers being white if you wanted! Not sure about the front!

I know this might have been said already somewhere but are your wheels American Racing or Eagle Alloys. I know they are 17x8 with 275-40-17.

Simple answer....dont total it and if it wasnt your fault obviously you get $$ for it. Cars arent meant to be driven only once a year.

83_Camaro_83-

I don't have a problem with you or anything...but I posted some pictures on here to get some feedback..whether it to be negative or positive. But when you talk about that's not even related to what the post is....that's pretty childish and a waste of everyones time.

I choose not to drive my car. It's not a daily driver, it's a show car. There are alot of guys on here that drive their 3rd gens everyday, which is great....but it's almost impossible to have that "show" quality when you drive it everyday...getting rocks chips, scratches, dings....all kinds of harsh appearance defects. I have an S-10 as my daily driver...and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you have any questions or comments..PM me..because I'm not here to waste everyones time..and to get the post locked..I'm here to talk to people, get idea's, & feedback

Yeah, and i said "nice car"

And my opinion on storing cars is its pointless. If I had a show car I would still drive it, why not. You dont see people not driving their porshes or BMW's, I see them driving in winter......pointless, thats my opinion, wanna judge me by that, I dont care.

Owner: Hey man, I just put 20 grand into my car!
Friend: Cool, bring it over!
Owner: I cant, the dust bunnies might get me

pointless....

Me too.I would drive the show car till the wheels fell off
As for the bmws ,porches n benzos....I can see why they drive those everyday as opposed to a third gen thats restored cuz they didnt put there sweat into it.

its his car...his money, let him do what he wants with it....and like he said it is very hard to keep it a show car if its an everyday driver.....my opinion is that cars should be driven for everybody to see..but like i said, thats just my opinion...everybody is entitled to one....so everybody just get off his back, if he wants to keep it in his garage and keep it spotless, let him do so...its a badass looking car, and i'm sure he wants to keep it that way...

In response to storing the car and driving it only occassionally....

Show cars can't be driven daily! In a recent 1000 point judging, my car received 996 points. The car gets looked at very closely during these judging sessions. If the car were driven daily, dust would get all over the engine compartment, surround the driveline, brake dust would encompass the inside of the rims, etc. Trying to keep a daily driver clean is tough enough, but show cars require more time and attention. I get grief all the time from my club members for not driving in the rain or down dirt roads. I don't have the time to spend countless hours detailing every crack and crevice before a judged show removing the little dust that gets on it now.

I agree that cars are meant to be driven. So he drove the car... I drive mine about the same. I put 5800 miles on my car in 5 years. 1700 were a trip to SuperFest from Minneapolis. That leaves 4100 in 5 years for cruising. I enjoy the car, but I won't destroy it since it's a show car. Give the guy a break.

Well if you had a show car you really loved and put you heart and soul into you would understand more! The difference in you porch and BMW comparison...those cars are considered valuabel by the insurance companies! You get in a fender bender and you can get teh parts, and the insurance will pay! Or you can buy a new one just like the old one! WE can't do that. If we kack a bumper, fender and hood...its a total! Insurance will never pay its worth. Say the frame is toast, you have to replace the car....good luck getting another the same quality, you have to start over! Even if you get Special insurance that will cover its worth...try being able to afford the rates if you want to drive it more then 25 miles a year or something ridiculous! Most require you to have another daily driver!

Heck i ahve been driving my "SHOW" car everyday 20 miles to and from work everyday since I was 15. Its had a show car paintjob sine 2002 (shaving, hood, ect...) I have been very fortunate the 4 times I ahve been hit since then have been the few times I drove Mom's car, or the dually while we were doing performance upgrades to mine... If any of the hits had been to it it would have been over!

I had a tire piece hit the car and screw up the paint just recently...luckly that took car of the roack chips I had in the hood from the driving...Still I have so much crap to fix before every show to make the car look 100% each time! The engine bay esp!

So to end my rant...I LOVE driving my car everyday, I'm just scared of what might happen to it. People are stupid and too distracted when driving, for me to trust them by driving the car everyday! So just got a daily driver! An 84 Indy Fiero pace car (1 of 200 4 speeds made)...$500.00 (inop clutch)...its rough, but should be good for now. I will drive it a while and focus on really fixing RAIF up...take him out on nice days! Then I can do some of the performance stuff I have been pining for as well! Then when the Pulsar is done the Fiero will be retired to fix up status as well!
