dont let this happen to u...... need help please
So basically the shop that did the body work and paint to my car screwed me over and the worst part is he use to be a friend. He did a great job on the bodywork and the paint job is amazing, but at what cost. He got paint all over my new K&N air filter lid and k&n filter, on my new chrome valve covers and chrome altinator, he destroyed all the Z28 badges, cracked my windshield, destroyed almost all my weather stripping and both of those grid vent things that go in the noes, scuffed my exhaust tips from sanding, painted over my locks, painted half the weather stripping on both quarter panels (for the sides of the door windows) and lost some stuff including my battery and antenna (I got a bat off him though that he wants back lol) he also got clear coat (I think thats what it is) on all 4 of my ROH snyper rims.
The worst thing is he was a friend so we did not have a contract or anything, I don’t have nothing if I wanted to take him to court. Anyway I freaked on him and it was this big fight, and now he wont fix the damage he caused and of course I lost a old friend and a body shop. So now I'm stuck with all this damaged stuff that I need to fix/replace. So far I got everything done except for acouple weather strippings and the clear coat that’s sprayed on each rim
im hopeing you guys could help me with that problem. My rims are ROH snypers, I think there polished alum but im not sure(pic below of my rims) I tried using paint thinned on a small area to see if it works without causing damage to the rims. I scrubbed like crazy and only a small amount came out and it looks like I put small scratches all over the area I was scrubbing.
the area he sprayed the clear coat on looks all foggy, i noticed i could scrape that stuff off with my finger nail so im guessing i should be able to get it off. does anyone know what can I use to get this stuff out?? I just got these rims last year and they were not cheap so u can guess im freaking out here. what should i do about this stuff??? Also is there anything at all I can do about this issue with the body shop? Any idea?
A word of advice to everyone, don’t trust no one not even your friends when it comes to stuff like this. Always get something on paper! Trust me you don’t want this to happen to you.
sry about the long post and thanks in advance for any help u can give me

That's why you have to be cautious when you have your car painted. No offense, but its kind of common sense that if you do not remove things which you do not want painted; you run a much higher risk of getting overspray on them.
Unless he said he would remove everything from the car I don't think you can have too much to complain about. Just my two cents.

Sorry about your misfortune! How much did he charge you?
Was he just trying to help you out as a friend?
Before you gave your car to him I'm assuming you have seen his work or you wouldnt let him touch your car. If you haven't then I would say you were asking for trouble.
Usually, most body shops make you 1/2 up front,1/2 pay at the end if its not done right at that point you could deal with the situation until its made right.
Getting mad isnt going to make the situation better. Nothing ever positive ever comes out of blowing up and losing it.
I would come up with a game plan with him to resolve the situation. Ask him to fix it...Was he being just sloppy or did he really try and is that his best work?
I would call a body shop (on what to use) they use special chemicals to remove stuff like that. Worst case senerio you might just need to have them re-polished.

when i gave him the car orignaly it did not have the rims on, he asked me to bring the rims in and he was going to put them on the car when its all done. im guessing he put them on and noticed something screwed on it and had to repaint it or something.
Yeah they do look freashly painted? They look nice! Hmm, why would be volenteer to put wheels and tires on your car thats extra time and labor? I know I had my 4 Runner in the body shop for someting stupid a dented bumper and just being in there there was overspray all over my car I had to buff it out! PINARSE!!!
Lets see some pics of the full car? Show us some of the BS work if you have any pics. Good luck!

A few years ago I started a business with a friend of mine. We didn't have any contract because we were best friends and had collaborated on other things in the past w/o a problem. Well...ego went straight to his head with owning a public company and he screwed me completely out and drove the company out of business. I would have helped him repay the $20,000 debt he owed coming out of this deal, but he told everyone that he was sole owner & did everything himself -- so I let him pay for everything himself.
And this was after my father warned me about a similar situation involving his father losing a business decades prior...

No I made it really really clear to him that I don’t want a cheap quick paint job, I want a show quality paint job and he assured me that’s what I was going to get. And he did that, he did a very good job on the body and paint. Ya I seen his work many times and he does a great job even on the cheap quickly paint jobs. He charged me 2600$ Canadian for everything, the car had no rust at all just a couple dings here and there. He also repaired a strut hole in the rear driver’s side wheel well. I have stiff performance struts and springs and I must have hit a hard pot hole because the strut went through the wheel well, there was no rust I just hit a bump hard (he said he put some big washers in it) I have no clue why but for some reason he wanted to repair the wheel well after he did the body and paint. So after he was done with the body and paint the car was still at his shop because he still had to fix that hole. That’s when he asked me to bring in my rims and anything else I was going to put on the car. Plus him and everyone else at the shop wanted to see how much better the car would look with the rims and tires on it (the stock z28 rims were on the car at that time) like I said he was an old friend so I thought nothing of it. I did not get mad at him I just told him about the problem and he went on about how he gave me such a big huge deal and I should not complain. He was getting as he put it "hyper" because I was complaining. i feel i have right to say something even if he gave me a deal, anyway the argueing just went on and nothing was done.
No those are not my rims that’s just a pic of the same rims I have, I posted it so u guys can see how they are made and help me figure out what stuff could clean it without damaging them.
were would i go to get it redone? what do i look for? there has to be stuff to clean it off.

That sucks then! Well, I guess on the bright side your happy with the paint job. You would pay a whole lot more than that here for the kind of quality your talking. I guess it would be a good time to get new moldings actually with new paint you should have that anyways.
Good luck with everything Post pics of your car we wanna see the new paint!

Dood.... you can take this guy to court. Contact your local State's Attorney's office and file a small claims suit against him for everything he damaged. You don't have to have a piece of paper with a bunch of words on it have a "contract." You took the car to him in nice condition and should have recieved it back in that same condition or better because of the new paint. There was a level of quality that is expected out of anyone who performs a service for money. Just because he did this on the side, or for a friend doesn't mean he can just trash your car and not have to pay for it. Getting paint on the wheels is not standard practice when painting a car, neither is damaging the windshield, or messing up the weather stripping. These are the kinds of things the judge will look at. There are certain things that you can expect to possibly happen, like getting overspay on your custom wheels if you leave them on. You took them off and he asked for them. This makes him responsible. You say he is a good friend.... good friends don't screw over good friends and put them in the position he has put you in. You have to remember that sometimes business is business and your car is your car. Take him to court and get your money. If he wants to hold a grudge, it's his problem. He messed up your car, you didn't mess up his....

With the situation I was in, I should have taken my friend to court, but I didn't. I thought we could work it through and everything would be OK in the end. Well...I eventually forgave the guy and tried bring his friend, but his bizarro ego trip never fully subsided and we never really did see eye-to-eye on anything after that.
You're in a different situation, but keep in mind what was already said that if he really were a good friend, he wouldn't have released the car to you in this condition. Accidents happen, but he would've fixed them all for free and without question if he cared. It's up to you, but really...when figuring all this out, keep in mind that he may not be such a friend as you thought.

ah same thing happened to me bro. guy destroyed all my weatherstripping, a couple of interior pieces, painted over my locks, got overspray on the passenger side window, used the wrong color for my car, and took a hell of a lot longer than he was supposed to on it. well in the end i paid him for the materials and left it at that. he didn't even paint my spoiler or side view mirrors. so, i feel your pain, and at least you still got a good quality paint job, mine is the wrong color, uneven amounts of flake in the paint, and he also painted over my side markers(luckily i had clear ones waiting for install).

I'm in a somewhat better situation as I'z po!
When I have mine painted, I'm going to remove everything and mask it all myself to save money, but the good side effect is that a lot of this type of crap will be avoided.
